Founded:

About Us
Areas of Focus:
Mission:

The mission of St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center Inc., is to create and maintain equal housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income people, primarily in Baltimore City, and to encourage and support strong and diverse neighborhoods.

Programs:

Housing Counseling

St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center is a non-profit organization that has worked for nearly 50 years to create and maintain equal housing opportunities and to encourage and support strong and diverse neighborhoods. St. Ambrose offers Homeownership Counseling for first-time homebuyers, Foreclosure Prevention Counseling, and Financial Counseling.

Homeownership Counseling

Our HUD certified counselors provide workshops and one-on-one counseling to prepare first time home buyers for sustainable homeownership. Counselors help prospective home owners evaluate their finances, navigate the home buying and loan process, and achieve the certification necessary to qualify for grant and incentive programs. Homeownership counselors are also available for post-purchase counseling and support.

Foreclosure Prevention

St. Ambrose was one of the first agencies in the country to offer Foreclosure Prevention counseling in 1977. Early on, St. Ambrose leadership identified the need for mortgage default and delinquency counseling and remains committed to foreclosure prevention today. Our Foreclosure Prevention counselors are extensively trained and certified.

Financial Counseling

St. Ambrose Financial counselors are available to help clients set and reach their financial goals. Whether you want to build savings, improve your credit, or become a homeowner, St. Ambrose financial counselors are here to help you gain the knowledge and skills to become financially empowered.

Housing Development

The Housing Development Department is dedicated to restoring and strengthening neighborhoods throughout Baltimore City by purchasing foreclosed properties, renovating them to top market standards, and selling these beautiful homes to happy homeowners. Our homes are renovated with new or updated kitchens, baths, heating systems, electric, plumbing, roofs, windows, storm doors, wall-to-wall carpet, ceiling fans throughout the house, central air conditioning (whenever possible), and refinished hardwood floors. Our renovated homes help to establish and maintain high standards in the area, and encourage neighboring homeowners to make necessary repairs to their homes in an effort to maintain the integrity and value of the community.

Legal Services

The Legal Services Program at St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center provides legal services to lower income Baltimore-area residents. St. Ambrose attorneys provide advice and representation in the following practice areas:

  • Foreclosure defense
  • Landlord-Tenant disputes
  • Tax sales
  • Title issues
  • Reverse mortgage default
  • Contract disputes
  • Access to public benefits
  • Consumer protection
  • Wills and estate planning

If you have a civil legal problem threatening your housing and cannot afford a lawyer, we invite you to contact us to see how we may help.

Rental Services

Since 1977, St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center has been dedicated to providing affordable housing to low-moderate income individuals and families, and to those with special needs, in Baltimore, Maryland. St. Ambrose has extensive experience working in distressed neighborhoods and providing homes for typically underserved individuals and families. St. Ambrose believes that quality rental opportunities help to stabilize neighborhoods.

Homesharing

About Homesharing

Homesharing is a simple idea: a homeowner offers an extra room in their home to someone looking for an affordable room to rent. St. Ambrose Homesharing matches these two parties based on various levels of compatibility.

Homesharing with St. Ambrose is more secure than other roommate options. Homesharing staff with years of experience carefully screen each applicant through interviewing, background checking, and personal references.
