412 Food Rescue

Overview
Headquarters:
Pittsburgh, PA, USA
About Us
Mission:

We prevent perfectly good food from entering the waste stream by redirecting it to those who are experiencing food insecurity.

Programs:

We partner with food retailers, volunteer drivers, and nonprofit organizations to connect surplus food with individuals and families who are experiencing food insecurity. Our intuitive app guides thousands of volunteers who we call Food Rescue Heroes, to rescue perfectly good but unsellable food that would otherwise be wasted and redirect it to people who need it.

Our food donor partners range from grocery stores, wholesalers, caterers, and everything in between. Our nonprofit partners include housing authorities, daycare centers, churches, community centers, and more.

Our model of food recovery and redistribution not only enables access to healthy food, but gets food to where people already are – overcoming barriers like transportation and time. 87% of the food we rescue is fresh food; primarily produce, meat, dairy, bread, and more.

While food rescue is the core element of our work, we do many other things to address food waste and hunger in our region, like creating meals from surplus food, equipping people with better cooking skills, creating innovative products from food waste, and distributing “unsellable” produce in a CSA program.

Size:

Founded:

About Us
Areas of Focus:
Mission:

The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship was established in 1987 to recruit and train the next generation of policy and advocacy leaders on a range of international peace and security issues. The fellowship ensures a pipeline of the brightest, most dedicated, and diverse next-generation experts into leading think tanks and advocacy groups in Washington, DC in order to inspire creative new approaches to the pervasive challenges to peace and security.

Programs:

Twice yearly, the fellowship’s Board of Directors selects a small group of outstanding individuals to spend six to nine months in Washington, DC. Scoville Fellows work full time at the participating organization of their choice. They contribute to their host institutions through research, writing, and multi-media advocacy activities. They create conferences and policy briefings, advocacy platforms, and coalitions. Fellows receive a small stipend for professional development and mentoring from a board member and an alum. The program arranges meetings with policy experts so the fellows can ask about issues and career advice, and schedules networking events for the current and former fellows.

Why Work For Us?:

Our goal is to bridge the gap between academia and the professional world by providing an entree for mission-driven grads eager to learn about and contribute to public-interest organizations. The Scoville Fellowship has a proven track record of attracting talented people with strong academic and advocacy backgrounds in international peace and security issues. The majority of former Scoville Fellows continue to work with public-interest organizations or in government capacities after concluding their fellowships, and many go on to graduate degrees in related fields.

California Pan-Ethnic Health Network

Overview
Headquarters:
Oakland, CA, USA
About Us
Mission:

We bring together and mobilize communities of color to advocate for public policies that advance health equity and improve health outcomes in our communities.

Programs:

We believe that we can achieve health equity through the radical reimagining of our health care system and an explicit pursuit of anti-racist policy and systems changes. Our projects bring together and mobilize our diverse community partners and communities of color to advocate for a health care system that treats everyone with respect and dignity. Together, we work to identify and challenge health inequities and propose policy solutions that encourage optimal health and well-being in all communities, regardless of their income, sex, race, ethnicity, primary language, LGBTQ+ status, disability or immigration status. We think of our projects as courageous activist spaces where our diverse community members are fully seen and their voices fully heard. On our own, our voices might not be strong enough to break through the noise. But together, we are raising our collective voices and flexing our community power to ensure that our state and local decision-makers create and implement policies and budgets that see us and serve us.

Why Work For Us?:

At CPEHN, we understand the importance of benefits and its contribution to the overall well-being of our staff. We provide excellent benefits (100% employer paid health and dental insurance, retirement plan contributions, sabbatical leave, generous PTO with 1 week winter holiday every year, frontloaded sick leave, and more). CPEHN provides all employees with professional development funds to grow and hone skills relevant to their work
