Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Headquarters:
Seattle, WA, United States
Annual Budget :
More than $500M
Founded:
2007
About Us
Mission:

Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. In developing countries, it focuses on improving people’s health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty. In the United States, it seeks to ensure that all people—especially those with the fewest resources—have access to the opportunities they need to succeed in school and life. Based in Seattle, Washington, the foundation is led by CEO Dr. Susan Desmond-Hellmann and Co-chair William H. Gates Sr., under the direction of Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett.

We work with partner organizations worldwide to tackle critical problems in four program areas. Our Global Development Division works to help the world’s poorest people lift themselves out of hunger and poverty. Our Global Health Division aims to harness advances in science and technology to save lives in developing countries. Our United States Division works to improve U.S. high school and postsecondary education and support vulnerable children and families in Washington State. And our Global Policy & Advocacy Division seeks to build strategic relationships and promote policies that will help advance our work. Our approach to grantmaking in all four areas emphasizes collaboration, innovation, risk-taking, and, most importantly, results.

The Mundi Project

Overview
Headquarters:
Salt Lake City, UT, USA
Annual Budget :
$100-500,000
Founded:
2006
About Us
Mission:

Enrich lives in our community through open access to pianos, music education, and innovative performance opportunities. Our vision is to inspire youth by creating open access to piano, music, and the arts.

Programs:

The following programs demonstrate our values of creativity, youth, inspiration, music education, and integrity.

PIANO BANK: Piano Bank is Utah’s only piano adoption program. We take in piano donations in need of minimal repair, and place them in new homes with families and public spaces that do not have the financial means to obtain a piano. To date, the Piano Bank has placed 179 instruments valued at over $325,000.

HARMONY HUB: Harmony Hub is our education arm. Located at the Sorensen Multi-Cultural Center and Sorenson Unity Center, Harmony Hubs are piano / music classrooms, designed to provide free music education to low-income populations in the Salt Lake area. Harmony Hubs are dedicated, safe environments where youth and families can explore music and the arts through a variety of expert-led piano and music education activities, all of which promote the holistic development of each individual. Harmony Hub has also recently expanded to include a partnership with Utah Classical Guitar Society to teach guitar.

MUNDI LIVE: Our Mundi Live concerts introduce diverse audiences to classical piano literature and various musical genres through FREE concerts held for the general public. Also as a part of Mundi Live programs is Impulse: a collaboration with local art studios to create visual art while simultaneously enjoying live music.

The success of Mundi Live is due in large part to Mundi Ambassadors, children and youth who share their love of music and introduce diverse audiences to the world of piano with performances throughout the community. Opportunities for these volunteer musical ambassadors include performance at Mundi Live concerts and community outreach events, as well as mentorships to low-income beginning piano students.

Why Work For Us?:

The Mundi Project is a grassroots organization. As we are a small organization, we need visionary leadership and community support to help us achieve our mission. We devote every effort to provide youth access to pianos and music education. We believe that every child should have the chance to get into the music world. Thank you for considering how your employment with the Mundi Project makes a difference and helps more children achieve their music dreams.

Achieve Miami

Overview
Headquarters:
Miami, Florida
Annual Budget :
$500,000-1M
Size:
1-10 employees
Founded:
2015
About Us
Mission:

Achieve Miami develops and accelerates educational programs that increase equity in our community.

Programs:

Our initiatives increase equity in our community by engaging children growing up in poverty in innovative and empowering learning opportunities while attracting, developing and mobilizing talented leaders of all ages, backgrounds and identities in service, mentorship and leadership to create social change. Since its founding in 2015, Achieve Miami has grown to serve over 1500 students annually in 4 partner elementary sites that engage students from over 40 high schools as mentors and volunteers. Our programs extend time spent learning by 570 hours a school year and provide over 50 educators with job embedded professional development.

Our Programs -

SATURDAY SERVICE ACADEMY

On 16 Saturdays throughout the school year, we pair elementary students with high school mentors from across Miami. Together, they read, write, share and laugh- while focusing on the skills and habits of highly successful students and readers.

SUMMER SERVICE ACADEMY

We engage over 360 students in grades 1st-5th in meaningful learning in June and July. Instead of being exposed to summer slide, our students are able to apply concepts and practices to solve real world problems with engagement through technology and innovative instructional practices. Our team of teachers and leaders develop new approaches and refine their practice with daily learning labs and collaborative structures.

UP! MUSIC

“Unlock the Power of Music” engages 100 students in 3 elementary sites in free, daily, after-school, music programming. Because we believe in the power of community and know that authentic family engagement leads to transformational outcomes for our students we offer weekly family music meals at each site and quarterly performance celebrations. We collaborate with district leaders, principals, teachers and parents to elevate the role of music education as a tool for driving academic excellence.

INNOVATIVE EDUCATOR FELLOWSHIP

We assemble a team of dynamic educators who are eager to innovate, refine best practices, and apply new instructional strategies that cause transformational outcomes for students in their classrooms.  Together, our fellows collaborate, research and explore innovative new practices and apply their learning to raise the bar for what an exceptional classroom leader can achieve by designing and executing ‘innovation projects’ in their schools.

Why Work For Us?:

THE OPPORTUNITY -

Since 2015, Achieve Miami has tripled our impact and scale while developing a structured and highly functioning organization. It is time to move from our founding era to the growth era. We seek a skilled executive manager to lead our strategic plan, build our network of champions and manage the execution of our programs. The Executive Director will engage with a wide array of stakeholders to help lead an organizational vision that positions Achieve Miami as a critical organization in the collaborative and innovative non-profit ecosystem in Miami. Reporting directly to the Founder, the Executive Director is uniquely positioned to further Achieve Miami’s on the ground impact while also driving long term strategy and results.

This role is a unique opportunity to work alongside a visionary founder and grow an innovative organization. We seek a confident self-starter who operates effectively with autonomy and high-stakes for results. The ideal candidate is driven to deliver opportunities and access to children facing the challenges of poverty and has experience managing a high performing team. A strong entrepreneurial spirit, incredible relationship building skills and the ability to work toward the big picture while connecting a variety moving pieces are must-haves.
