Santa Fe Desert Chorale

Overview
Headquarters:
Santa Fe, NM
Annual Budget :
$1-5M
Size:
1-10 employees
Founded:
1982
About Us
Mission:

The mission of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale is to excite, engage, and inspire diverse audiences with the beauty and power of great choral music.

Programs:

The Santa Fe Desert Chorale is one of the nation’s leading professional chamber choirs. Scott Cantrell of the Dallas Morning News remarked that, “The Santa Fe Desert Chorale [is] a top-notch, 24-voice group… comprising the crème de la crème of professional choral singers from coast to coast…” These virtuosic artists gather together in Santa Fe to perform multiple concert programs in July and August, along with beloved holiday concerts throughout December.

Artistic Director Joshua Habermann leads the Desert Chorale in repertoire spanning seven centuries, from early polyphony to contemporary choral works. For over 40 years, the Desert Chorale Summer Festival season has become a centerpiece of the cultural life of Santa Fe and is among the nation’s most significant choral events.

Throughout its history, the Desert Chorale has maintained a commitment to give voice to music from Hispanic and Native American communities. Dedicated to advancing the composers of our time, the Chorale has commissioned 29 works by 26 composers; three-quarters of the composers commissioned have been American. In addition, another seven works have been given their world or American premieres by the Santa Fe Desert Chorale. The Desert Chorale’s Commissioning Club selects and funds a new commission annually.

Through its community engagement programming, the Desert Chorale partners with other musical, artistic, social service, and educational organizations in Santa Fe and beyond. The annual community singing workshop Santa Fe Sings!, the Insights & Sounds Symposium, and the Hearts in Harmony partnership with the Interfaith Community Shelter have been examples of the Chorale’s commitment to strengthening our community through song.

Why Work For Us?:

As we expand the Desert Chorale staff, we offer burgeoning arts management professionals the opportunity to work with a well-established performing arts organization during a period of exciting growth. Our team prides itself on supporting one another, working collaboratively, and maintaining open lines of communication. This is a place to learn and grow, and each employee is allocated a budget for professional development. Come make a difference in the world of performing arts!

The Santa Fe Desert Chorale is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Hiring decisions are based on business need, job requirements, and individual qualifications, without regard to race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital or family status, disability, veteran status, or other non-merit factor. As we grow, we maintain a commitment to cultivate an inclusive and equitable workplace, where diversity is celebrated and valued.

ABOUT YOUNG WOMEN EMPOWERED (Y-WE): Young Women Empowered (Y-WE) delivers creative, innovative, and transformative empowerment programs for young women* in the greater Seattle region. We envision a society rooted in social justice, where all young women live their truth, achieve their dreams, and change our world. Founded in 2010, we have grown from serving 50 young people annually to over 2,000 through ongoing programs, community events, mutual aid resources, and mental health and wellness programs. Y-WE centers BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) young women and is majority BIPOC-led, including our Co-Executive Directors, Staff, Board, Mentor community, and Youth Leadership Council. Recognizing that our liberation is interconnected, we are a collaborative organization rooted in intersectional and intergenerational partnership. Y-WE is a place for all of us to be ourselves, learn together, and grow together.

*those who identify as girls or women, nonbinary, trans, gender expansive, and gender diverse.

WHOM WE SERVE:  Y-WE’s core programs serve diverse groups of young people who identify as girls or women, nonbinary, trans, gender expansive, and gender diverse. Most core programs are open to participants ages 13-19, with additional programs and offerings for young adults and the broader community. We center BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ youth in our programs, though we welcome participants from a wide variety of identities and backgrounds. We also offer multiple affinity-based programs. Many participants are first or second generation immigrants, and many are low income. Adult women from the community also participate in programs alongside young people using an intergenerational, shared mentorship model.
