Founded in 2003, the Four Freedoms Fund™ (FFF) is a national donor collaborative working toward full integration of immigrants as active participants in our democracy.

Programs: 

For both its grantees and funders, the Four Freedoms Fund plays three critical roles:

Investor – FFF makes general and project support grants to pro-immigrant organizations across the country that engage in advocacy, organizing, civic engagement and defense of rights.

Philanthropy Advisor –FFF uses our intermediary role to help donors make more informed decisions with their own grantmaking and to help the field respond to opportunities or challenges as they arise.

Capacity Builder – FFF offers a comprehensive menu of skills training and coaching to strengthen the operational effectiveness, sustainability, advocacy skills and communications capacity of FFF grantees.

CCE-Essex is part of the Cooperative Extension land grant system, an educational partnership between County, State, and Federal governments that is administered in New York State through Cornell University. Each county's Cooperative Extension association is an independent employer, governed by an elected Board of Directors, and is responsive to county government with general oversight from Cornell University. All associations work to meet local needs as well as state and national goals.

We are a small CCE office of motivated, engaged educators who enjoy connecting with the community in all of the listed programs. We are flexible and laid-back but always excited to take on new projects and make community impacts.

The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship was established in 1987 to recruit and train the next generation of policy and advocacy leaders on a range of international peace and security issues. The fellowship ensures a pipeline of the brightest, most dedicated, and diverse next-generation experts into leading think tanks and advocacy groups in Washington, DC in order to inspire creative new approaches to the pervasive challenges to peace and security.

Programs: 

Twice yearly, the fellowship’s Board of Directors selects a small group of outstanding individuals to spend six to nine months in Washington, DC. Scoville Fellows work full time at the participating organization of their choice. They contribute to their host institutions through research, writing, and multi-media advocacy activities. They create conferences and policy briefings, advocacy platforms, and coalitions. Fellows receive a small stipend for professional development and mentoring from a board member and an alum. The program arranges meetings with policy experts so the fellows can ask about issues and career advice, and schedules networking events for the current and former fellows.

The Scoville Fellowship has a proven track record of attracting talented people with strong academic and advocacy backgrounds in international peace and security issues. “Equal Justice for All” is our shared ideal. Every year, millions walk under these words, engraved into the United States Supreme Court building. Every day, millions of schoolchildren pledge their allegiance to a republic “with liberty and justice for all.” And on countless TV shows, you hear the words, “If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you.”

Unfortunately, there is no right to an attorney for people facing non-criminal legal problems. For many people, especially those with limited incomes, the high cost of legal assistance can prevent them from obtaining even the most basic access to our court systems.

That’s why MLSA works to provide civil legal aid to low income individuals living throughout Montana – to ensure that equal justice for all is a reality for all Montanans, and not just for those who can afford it.

MLSA received the Mary Byron Celebrating Solutions Award in recognition of MLSA’s work to provide civil legal assistance to survivors of domestic violence and break the cycle of violence.
MLSA received a Community Impact Award at the Montana Housing Partnership Conference recognizing the impact of the Keep My Montana Home program on saving homes from foreclosure in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis.
MLSA received the Montana Board of Crime Control’s Innovative Community Improvement Award for using technology to increase access to justice in rural Montana.
