Encore Creativity’s mission is to create meaningful arts experiences supporting lifelong learning, wellness, and fun for all older adults.

Encore Creativity for Older Adults is the nation’s largest choral arts organization for adults 55 and over. With over 40 ensembles (and growing!) nationwide, and over 1500 singers ages 55 to 99, Encore is a leading organization in the field of creative aging. We envision a world where all older adults have a place in the arts.

Encore’s programs include:

  • Encore Chorales, traditional choirs singing choral classics in four-part harmony
  • Encore ROCKS groups, singing rock ‘n’ roll hits from the 50s, 60s, and beyond
  • Arts for Life ensembles, which connect individuals with cognitive change and their care partners through song
  • Encore University, online educational classes focusing on key areas of artistic wellness

Accessibility is the key to Encore’s success. There are no auditions to become a member of an Encore program; interested singers need only to have a love for music and a desire to improve their physical, mental, and emotional health. No singer needs to have any experience with music or singing, and the ability to read music is not necessary. Singers may be seated or standing for all ninety-minute rehearsals and performances. Most importantly of all, Encore is fun! Encore singers love the music, love to sing, and thrive on the camaraderie that comes with the Encore experience.

For more than 60 years, the Jesuit Volunteer Corps has worked to build a more just and hopeful world by placing young leaders in solidarity and service with marginalized communities. This is no small task. Each year, we recruit and support more than 200 volunteers, coordinate with more than 150 partner agencies, and provide meaningful engagement to more than 10,000 alumni and donors.  

We rely on passionate and creative professionals to further this mission. Many of our employees are former Jesuit Volunteers, while others are drawn to us as a justice organization at the front lines of social change. Our team is distributed across several states, and we also have some full-time employees who work out of our office in Baltimore. A handful of staff are part-time volunteer support staff and they live and work in cities where we place volunteers.  

We pray together twice a week and gather monthly to discuss our individual and departmental Anti-racism goals.

We were founded by Jim Fruchterman with a sole focus on applying technology to social good. Today, Benetech continues to stand out from other tech and education equity companies—as a nonprofit—with a pure focus on providing technology and services for people with learning differences or disabilities so they can learn in ways that work for them and pursue their dreams.

More than two decades after our founding, we’ve grown to include multiple initiatives that provide technology and services  to improve—even transform—the lives of people all across the world. Benetech is embracing a paradigm shift in our social mission to more clearly focus on systemic barriers to education equity through deep engagement within individual communities. In our many years of commitment to scaling and galvanizing inclusion and accessibility in education, we continue to see how barriers disproportionally affect children with learning differences in communities of color. We are transforming our work to build a significant connection between difference or disability and racial justice – for lasting change in a focused, localized way. We are gaining momentum in five underserved metro areas – Albuquerque, Atlanta, Detroit, Las Vegas, and Memphis – building a community-based approach and framework for sustainable impact.

Benetech has developed a broad national approach to inclusive education through awards from the U.S. Department of Education, recently renewed to 2027. It is only with additional support that we can build deep community engagement and expand stakeholder awareness, student screenings for dyslexia, teacher training, local funding partnerships, and promotion of local authors and culturally responsive content. Benetech’s experience in inclusive education and disability inclusion gives us a unique capacity for impact where few organizations are focusing. We will apply and adapt the initiative to fifty regions over the next 10 years.

We are also working with schools and organizations globally to help ensure inclusive education, digital literacy, and access to learning materials for students with disabilities from education to employment. Our teams and programs in India, the Philippines and Kenya are empowering learners to succeed in school and beyond.
