Center for Youth Wellness

Overview
Headquarters:
San Francisco, CA, United States
About Us
Areas of Focus:
Why Work For Us?:

The Center for Youth Wellness (CYW) is part of a national effort to revolutionize pediatric medicine and transform the way society responds to kids exposed to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and toxic stress.

Led by founder and CEO, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, CYW is a health organization partnering with the Bayview Child Health Center (BCHC) to serve children and families in the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood of San Francisco. We were created to respond to an urgent public health issue: early adversity harms the developing brains and bodies of children.

CYW seeks to transform the delivery of primary care for children in a way that recognizes and addresses exposure to ACEs as a major risk factor for chronic disease. By changing the way in which primary care physicians, nurses—and society in general—recognize, treat, and respond to youth who may be at risk for or are experiencing toxic stress, CYW aims to bring about better health outcomes throughout the life course.

CYW is a fast-paced, results-oriented organization that is growing rapidly. Our work has been featured at local, statewide and national levels including contribution to The Shriver Report, partnership with Hillary Clinton and Next Generation’s Too Small To Fail Initiative, hosting California’s first Statewide Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Summit and plenary presentations at the national meeting of the American Academy of Pediatrics. We’re poised to continue growing our model of clinical intervention, applied research and advocacy in the relentless pursuit of our goal to improve the health of children and adolescents exposed to ACEs.

Evolve California

Overview
Headquarters:
San Francisco, CA
Annual Budget :
$100-500,000
Size:
1-10 employees
Founded:
2011
About Us
Areas of Focus:
Mission:

Evolve organizes high-impact grassroots campaigns to benefit all Californians.

Programs:

Evolve was founded in the spring of 2011 by a group of Bay Area activists looking for a way to get beyond the current political mess. From Washington, D.C.'s failure to work together to fix mounting problems, to perennial budget fights in Sacramento, to ideological battles at City Hall, all levels of government and public life are suffering from the same problem. Politicians, the media, and many activists are too concerned about winning the next election or on the horserace of politics. As this goes on, real problems go unsolved: 50 million Americans lack access to affordable healthcare, unemployment is still incredibly high, and our public education system is being dismantled.

Evolve was founded in the belief that there's a better way. Most of the significant problems we face have established, effective solutions that are not being implemented because of political infighting or the power of special interests. The answer is clear: we need to hold politicians accountable, through grassroots issue-advocacy and elections, to real results that actually move our society forward. And that's what Evolve does. Through effective, smart, long-term organizing we know we can make a difference and ultimately, leave our world a better place than we found it. Evolve to something better.

Why Work For Us?:

If you are unhappy with the political status quo, want to help bring about real social change, and are eager to learn how to be an effective political organizer this is the job for you.
