Under the direction of Dr. Thea Kano, The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC (GMCW) is a nationally and internationally recognized organization which inspires equality, justice, and inclusion through the performing arts. Our organization is comprised of our 300-member flagship chorus, the GenOUT Chorus for LGBTQ+ and allied youth ages 13-18, the chamber ensemble Rock Creek Singers, the a cappella group Potomac Fever, the gospel/inspirational ensemble Seasons of Love, and the dance troupe 17th Street Dance.

Since 1981, the GMCW has presented thoughtful, sophisticated, entertaining, and enlightening concerts to hundreds of thousands of people in the nation’s capital, around the United States, and at international venues. Our season is anchored by three major shows presented at the historic Lincoln Theatre in Washington, DC. Typical seasons also include a Cabaret, a classically programmed concert, and a fully staged musical. In addition, the main chorus and our small ensembles perform an ever-increasing number of outreach events throughout the season, totaling over 100 each season. 

GMCW is the voice of LGBTQ+ people in Washington, DC for such events as the Kennedy Center Honors (for which GMCW has performed twice), Presidential inaugural festivities (performing for Presidents Clinton and Obama), and historically significant ceremonies (including the interment services for Frank Kameny and Matthew Shepard and the celebration of the Supreme Court’s pro-marriage equality decision in United States v. Windsor). In addition to these high-profile events, GMCW and its small ensembles can be found performing weekly around the DC metro region at faith communities, businesses, and schools, promoting justice and equality for all through song.

Education Board Partners (formerly Charter Board Partners) is the only national nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to strengthening nonprofit boards in education. Volunteer boards in education — the boards of public charter schools, nonprofit education organizations, and autonomous district schools — are a powerful force operating independent of politics to improve school quality, equity, and accountability. They bring valuable expertise and leadership experience to schools, and they make decisions in close proximity to students, staff, and communities. Programs: 

Our three core areas of work include:

  • We recruit board members for schools that need deeper skills, relevant experience, and more diversity. 
    Board work is people work. EBP engages deeply with boards around their goals, recruits talented and motivated people, and personally connects them with the boards that need their skills and experience. We focus particularly on recruiting and building diverse boards: More than half of American public school students are students of color (a number that increases each year), but 86% of nonprofit board members in the U.S. are white. Through this work, we aim to ensure that education-related boards better represent the students in our public schools.   
     
  • We provide tailored support for board members and executive directors to help them govern well.
    EBP provides customized coaching, adaptable tools and templates, and robust trainings that help boards govern effectively and equitably. We train boards to understand opportunity and achievement gaps in our public schools and make decisions that help close them. We help educate all board members about the broader education landscape and equip them to speak up in favor of equitable access to high-quality schools for all students and families.
     
  • We help decision-makers incentivize strong boards.
    Because effective governance results in stronger accountability and higher-quality schools, EBP partners with authorizers, support organizations, and funders to help them more accurately measure board effectiveness and insist on engaged, diverse boards.

For over fifty years, the Montana Legal Services Association has helped ensure fairness for all in Montana’s justice system by providing civil, non-criminal legal services to low income Montanans living in all 56 Montana counties and on all Tribal Reservations.

Programs: 

As a private, non-profit law firm, MLSA provides non-criminal legal information, advice, and representation to thousands of Montanans each year. MLSA’s services help fight scams on seniors, assist veterans who have been denied their earned benefits, help people escape abusive relationships, and represent families living in unsafe housing conditions.

“Equal Justice for All” is our shared ideal. Every year, millions walk under these words, engraved into the United States Supreme Court building. Every day, millions of schoolchildren pledge their allegiance to a republic “with liberty and justice for all.” And on countless TV shows, you hear the words, “If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you.”

Unfortunately, there is no right to an attorney for people facing non-criminal legal problems. For many people, especially those with limited incomes, the high cost of legal assistance can prevent them from obtaining even the most basic access to our court systems.

That’s why MLSA works to provide civil legal aid to low income individuals living throughout Montana – to ensure that equal justice for all is a reality for all Montanans, and not just for those who can afford it.
