Oregon Food Bank

Overview
Headquarters:
Portland, OR, USA
About Us
Mission:

To eliminate hunger and its root causes because no one should be hungry. We are dedicated to ensuring that no one goes hungry today, that Oregon becomes the first state without hunger, and that people experiencing hunger are at the center of all we do.

Programs:

In our work to eliminate hunger in Oregon, we believe we must also address the root causes of hunger through public policy, nutrition and garden education, and public awareness.

We focus on freshness:

By 2019, we expect to be distributing 15 million pounds of produce each year.

We champion self-reliance:

Our nutrition and garden education programs, as well as community food organizing activities, increase self-reliance and improve the health of communities.

We advocate for change:

We advocate for public policies and programs that address hunger at its root causes.

  • We urge lawmakers to make food a priority by investing in policies and programs that reduce hunger and build healthy communities.
  • We recognize race and place are central determinants in individual and community health.
  • We commit to combating systems and behavior which undercut food security.
  • We actively cultivate new strategies for underserved communities and seek to engage people facing hunger in both long-term solutions and day-to-day program delivery.

Wasilla, Alaska

$1-5M
Size:
11-50 employees
Founded:
1971
About Us
Areas of Focus:
Mission:

Nugen's Ranch serves adult men and women who have abused alcohol and drugs. The beautiful Matanuska-Susitna Valley setting, daily Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings, NA meetings, farm activities, work therapy, individual and small group counseling combine to create a supportive low-key family atmosphere.

Programs:

Alaska Addiction Rehabilitation Services, Inc. is located in the outskirts of Wasilla, Alaska where for nearly forty years it has been the only agency in the state to offer long-term residential and work-based substance use treatment. AARS operates a 116-acre working farm that grows and sells hay, vegetables, flowers, and pigs. The farm provides residents opportunities through work therapy to learn life skills and habits that help gain new skills for staying sober and develop habits that support them in remaining substance-free for the rest of their lives. AARS is known for its low recidivism rate (approximately 50% remain substance free for two years after leaving); it has a strong partnership with Alaska’s court system, and judges routinely send individuals to AARS who have not been successful in previous treatment programs.
