About Us

APA is an organization unlike any other, founded in 1997 by five U.S. Presidents and General Colin Powell we’re uniquely poised to create coalition and change on a national scale. Our goal is to bring the most inspiring youth-supporting organizations and leaders together in authentic community with one another, foster a commitment of radical support among leaders and organizations, and focus our efforts on both organizational improvement and building powerful coalitions for systemic change.

While we believe a shared learning and aligned action is essential, it does not happen on its own. It takes serious intentionality, design, and stewardship. Over nearly 3 decades, APA has had the privilege to be in conversation with some of the inspiring youth-supporting leaders across the nation. As a result, 2022 marks the launch of APA’s next chapter -- a reimagined Alliance that will seek to provide the infrastructure and stewardship necessary to ensure effective sharing and collaboration among youth-supporting organizations at national scale.

Why Work For Us?:

Check out details about what we have up our sleeves in APA’s 5-year strategic plan on our website. As we’re building there’s one known fact: we’ll need some of the best of the best working beside us to make our ambitious plans a reality. Hint, hint: That’s where you come in. Once you’ve taken a peek at our strategic plan, check out our current openings below and come take this leap into our next chapter with us!

Reiss Center on Law and Security

Overview
Headquarters:
New York, NY, USA
Founded:
2003
About Us
Areas of Focus:
Mission:

Founded in 2003 and renamed in 2018, the Reiss Center on Law and Security is a non-partisan multidisciplinary research institute at NYU School of Law. We are focused on cultivating an informed dialogue, educating the next generation of leaders, and fostering groundbreaking research on the vital legal, policy, and strategic questions that will shape the national security field for years to come.

Programs:

The Reiss Center on Law and Security is engaged in innovative research and programming, and undertakes activities focused on both recent developments and long-standing issues in national security law and strategy. In all its work, the Reiss Center studies national security law and practice against the backdrop of an era defined by significant change—from geopolitical developments to rapid technological advances—as well as enduring challenges.

The Reiss Center’s Program of Study includes:

National Security at Home: Domestic Law, Policy and Process

The Reiss Center’s work begins at home, studying how the United States orders and engages in the practice of national security. From classic questions of separation of powers and war-making authorities, to current developments in the national security bureaucracy, to systemic vulnerabilities at the intersection of national security and democracy, the Reiss Center works to identify pragmatic and principled solutions to the most salient issues facing practitioners today.

Use of Force and Emerging Security Threats

The Reiss Center examines emerging issues in the use of force, including in the counterterrorism, counterinsurgency, and nation-state contexts. We study domestic legal and policy trends, challenges and opportunities stemming from bilateral and multilateral security cooperation, and questions that arise as technological advances change the nature of warfare and adversaries increasingly employ tactics below the threshold of force.

National Security in a Shifting Geopolitical Context

National security law and policy are not created in a vacuum; their substance is shaped by a larger framework of world events, domestic and international law, and evolving norms and behaviors. The Reiss Center leverages the global mission and resources of NYU to promote an understanding of broader trends as they relate to national security law and practice—including increasing strategic competition and strained alliances; innovative and disruptive technologies; rising authoritarianism and nationalism; and challenges to the rules-based order and the nature of rule-making itself.

nXu Education

Overview
Headquarters:
New York, NY
About Us
Areas of Focus:
Mission:

nXu is a non-profit organization whose mission is to catalyze and equip youth and adults to explore, articulate, and pursue their purpose.

Programs:
  • Our Methodology: We have developed a research & evidence-based, 4-phase, purpose development methodology called “The Compass” that serves as our learning standards.
  • Our Products & Services: We offer a training program as well as our purpose development curriculum to schools, and we also directly implement programming with students both in school and out of school.
  • Our Target: Through our products and services, we have served high school students from over 50 district, charter, and private schools across the country.  We are seeking to partner with additional schools and organizations that are interested in fostering a sense of purpose among their students.
Why Work For Us?:

A sense of purpose acts as an inner compass that—when combined with skills training and community support—allows young people to live in alignment with their highest potential.  Thus, we have developed a research & evidence-based purpose development methodology and curriculum that we have implemented in-school and out-of-school with high school students in Chicago, Newark, New York, San Antonio and Seattle.  Through this direct programming, we have cultivated a deep understanding of the implementation needs of our purpose development program.  Leveraging these insights, we are establishing a teacher training program and school-based curriculum that will allow a growing number of high schools to cultivate a sense of purpose in the lives of their students.
