Summary:

The Floater I will assist and support all center classrooms by providing break and lunch relief for center staff, and support the classroom teacher and therapy staff in program implementation and the day-to-day care and supervision of children.

Basic Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the implementation of daily classroom activities
  • Assist with organizing the learning environment, setting up learning centers and preparing needed materials and supplies
  • Perform general classroom housekeeping duties, including: preparing snacks, feeding children, pottying and diapering children, and general clean up, etc.
  • Work under the guidance of the teacher and therapists and assist in developmental activities
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized room
  • Ensure a safe environment in the classroom with primary importance on the safety and well-being of each child
  • Attend and be a part of in-service sessions, staff and team meetings 
  • Become knowledgeable about the individual daily needs and well-being of each child in the classroom
  • Ensure following Child and Adult Care Food Program guidelines
  • Be willing to learn and be instructed in the philosophies and skills required for working in a special education, early childhood or infant development program
  • Perform any childcare related duties as assigned
Qualifications:SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • A high school graduate or the equivalent
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Prior experience working with infants or young children preferred
  • Prior experience working with children with disabilities preferred
  • Must relate well to children and their families
  • Must pass DSHS background check (and federal background check if applicable)
  • Must have proof of U.S. citizenship or right to work
  • Annual training and certifications required by state licensing and NAEYC
INTER-RELATIONSHIPS:

The Floater I will interact with supervisors, coworkers, children, and parents on a regular basis. A professional demeanor and flexible approach are required, as is knowledge of who to refer to when faced with an unfamiliar issue.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties will be performed in the classroom, the kitchen, and on the playground. Occasional travel to other offices and/or childcare facilities may be necessary.

  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs. up to 20 times per day
  • Ability to frequently change position: stand, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, carry children
  • Must be highly flexible and adaptable, able to respond quickly to the changing needs of children, families and ESW
  • Work hours may vary to meet the needs of the children.
