The Therapy Aide is responsible for implementing therapy programs to maximize independence and support the highest quality of life possible for individuals who have severe developmental disabilities and other special needs. Services are provided in the assigned service area in Winfield/Arkansas City or El Dorado. Therapy Aides must maintain current certification in CPR and First Aid.  The therapy aide’s work is performed in a variety of community-based settings. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assists in maintaining the health and quality of life of persons served by: implementing therapy programs as directed by Licensed/Registered Therapists; acquiring and maintaining adaptive equipment/durable medical equipment as needed or recommended by medical and/or allied health consultants; and reporting health concerns, skin problems, changes in behaviors and complaints from persons served to the Registered Nurses and/or other appropriate member of the individual’s support team.  
  • Assists persons served in performing range of motion movements, stretches, standing, and using devices such as splints and standers to assist in physical therapy.
  • Maintains compliance with various state/federal regulations, sound therapeutic care practices, and ESCF policy/procedures by:  maintaining prescribed therapy implementation rates; properly documenting all therapy programs performed; and updating treatment records as needed to reflect changes in prescribed therapeutic care.
  • Participates in the quality of life plan (QLP) process for each person served by attending and participating in various meetings and sessions or providing updates for inclusion, and keeping the team up to date on therapy-related aspects that might affect plans of care. 
  • Provides support to direct care staff.
  • Participates with persons served in social and sports activities, assisting the persons served as needed.  At no time will the employee participate alone or without the persons served (e.g. riding fun rides alone, participating in sporting events alone, etc.)
  • Assists in the homes when needed during emergency situations as requested by the supervisor.
  • Ensures implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Provides for the smooth operation of therapy and other programs by performing other duties/tasks as requested by fellow team members and as assigned by supervisor.
Educational Background: 
High school diploma (or equivalent)
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience working in a therapy department under the direction/supervision of a Physical Therapist and/or Occupational Therapist.  
  • Additional post-secondary education in a therapy assistant training program at a health-care setting, community college or vocational school (one year of college-level education preferred) and six months to one year of experience providing restorative therapy for a special needs population. COTA certification a plus.
  • Valid Kansas Driver’s license. 
  • Read, write and speak fluent English. 
  • Must be able to pass background checks per agency procedures.
