Senior Director - Annual Fundraising Campaign

The Senior Director for Annual Campaign manages all aspects of the annual workplace campaign efforts including staff and fundraising responsibilities.  Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Director of Annual Campaign will lead, drive and catalyze innovations to both maintain and help transform the organization’s revenue model in order to achieve the bold mission of United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona. This position, working in tandem with Leadership Giving, is responsible for guiding staff in developing and executing strategies for closing business deals and raising the resources necessary to fund United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona programs and operations.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Resource Development

  • Design, organize, direct, and implement strategy to increase the overall number of workplace campaign donors and address donor attrition.
  • Develop effective donor management programs focused on continuous growth in level of giving while increasing the share of dollars directed to United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona impact areas from current and new members.
  • Coordinate year-round management of current and prospective campaigns.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with senior management of key accounts, ensuring maximum support in their organization’s campaign.
  • Develop alliances as appropriate with corporate, government and private partners.
  • Personally manage several large, significant accounts.
  • Work with Leadership Giving to identify leadership givers and prospects within annual workplace campaigns and help coordinate transition of appropriate donors to Leadership Giving team.
  • Cultivate relationships with public and private groups to present United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona’s vision, mission, services, and programs, and fulfill United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona goals of cost-effective fundraising and community building.
  • Provide excellent customer service as a component of all job duties.

Administrative Management and Functions

  • Develop and implement strategic long-range plans for Annual Campaign; track/report results.
  • Direct and manage employees, interns, consultants, and volunteers.  Ensure staff work plans meet organizational goals and objectives
  • Maintain donor and prospect records and current files.
  • Establish, monitor, and administer budget and expenses within budget requirements, including planning and managing budget line items for specific outcomes.
  • Create, modify, and maintain routine and special letters, memos, and reports using word processing, database, spreadsheet and other software packages.
  • Counsel and assist staff in professional growth and development within United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona and the community. Conduct timely performance evaluations.
  • Perform duties in accordance with United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona policies and procedures such as completing accurate and timely timesheets and expense reports.

Volunteer Management

  • Train volunteers about the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona community impact work and their role and responsibilities.
  • Utilize volunteer’s skills and knowledge where appropriate to increase the success of the Annual Workplace Campaign.
  • Communicate challenges and accomplishments to volunteers throughout campaign.
  • Prepare volunteers for individual and account calls, campaign cabinet meetings, reports, public appearances and any other function of responsibility.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in business, communications or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in resource development, donor relations or related field.
  • Experience and success in managing relationships and securing support from accounts and individuals.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience and ability to motivate and manage staff, donors, and volunteers.
  • Desire and ability to work in team-oriented work environment.
  • Ability to tactfully handle stressful situations, negotiate and resolve conflicts, maintain confidentiality and to respect and observe organizational protocol.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, public speaking, training, facilitation, administrative and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills including CRM, Windows-based software (Word and Excel), e-mail and calendar, and presentation software.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule and adjust it as required by changing activities
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, daily access to reliable vehicle and able to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $61,000 to $70,000 per year
