Working as part of the education strategies team, the Community Impact Manager will develop, execute, and evaluate investments that support vulnerable young children and their families. Goals are to improve kindergarten readiness in King County overall and to eliminate income and racial disparities.

Current strategies include the Parent-Child Home Program and investments in other parent support/education and trauma-informed childcare. This position works in consultation with community nonprofits, public and private funders, donors, and other partners impacted by or interested in United Way of King County’s work.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages and monitors grant funding related to early learning. Proposes and develops investment strategies through broad community engagement and other research and consultation. Develops and implements strategies to address racial disparities.
  • Leads application and review processes for funding.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with grantees through regular communication, site visits, and periodic opportunities for cross-agency engagement and professional development.
  • Supports grantees with results measurement and reporting.
  • Manages contracts with public funders.
  • Manages Parent-Child Home Program regional home visiting initiative, creating and supporting contracts and serving as liaison with direct service providers, with funding partners, and with the model’s state lead and national center.
  • Develops and promotes volunteer engagement activities for individual and corporate volunteers. Creates opportunities for individual and corporate volunteerism in support of this work.
  • Participates actively on education team and with grant makers from other teams.
  • Works with Public Policy staff to support local, state, and national legislation and administrative changes that have an impact on United Way’s early learning goals.
  • Supports fundraising through speaking engagements, donor events, and grant proposal research and writing. Prepares and delivers presentations at staff and volunteer committee meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, specializing in social work/human services, public administration, or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong knowledge of health and human service issues
  • Intermediate knowledge of early learning strategies, issues, and local early learning community.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and respond to interests of diverse constituent groups and perspectives on human service issues.
  • Demonstrated strategic planning, issue research and analysis, project management, and program evaluation experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and motivate groups of people.
  • Strong customer service and partnership development skills.
  • Proven verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of group process and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Education and/or Experience

  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in human services, preferably in the area of early learning.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience with racial equity strategies.
  • Grant making experience and/or experience writing and managing public and private grants, strongly desired.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $61,000 to $70,000 per year
