United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County (UWSA) seeks a Director of the Strong Individuals and Families Impact Council.  This full-time position serves as the primary co-leader of the Impact Council to guide a diverse network of nonprofit partners, subject matter experts, public sector representatives and community volunteers to ensure that individuals and families in Bexar County are stable, flourish economically, reach their full potential and maintain a quality of life free of discrimination. This position will work collaboratively with a cross-departmental team and with a wide variety of stakeholders.

UWSA has redesigned its investment model to strategically align with four priorities: Ready Children, Successful Students, Strong Individuals and Families and Safety Net. Utilizing a structured form of collaboration informed by the Results-Based Accountability framework, UWSA has organized into four Impact Councils that will focus on collective impact by bringing together partners from different sectors to work on a common agenda for solving problems specific to each priority area and to uphold equitable results for individuals and families.

We are looking for an individual with experience leading collaborative, cross-sector nonprofit partnerships.  This person will have an understanding of the nonprofit community and the ability to work and communicate with a diverse set of stakeholders (clients, nonprofit partners, donors, content experts, lead volunteers, other United Ways, other funders) in a professional manner. The successful candidate will be flexible, self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively.  The ideal candidate will be familiar with Results-Based Accountability, economic well-being, family violence and the multitude of factors related to financial stability.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Direct, plan and execute the backbone infrastructure for the Strong Individuals and Families Impact Council to include priority setting; planning; implementation; budgeting; performance evaluation; fiscal and program monitoring; data analysis; management of monthly meetings with partner agencies and quarterly meetings of the full Impact Council.
  • Work collaboratively with nonprofit partners, community volunteers, staff and the Council co-lead to help the Impact Council achieve results through a collective impact lens.
  • Ensure UWSA investments are addressing stated priorities and creating measurable impact in Bexar County.
  • Foster trust and mutual accountability among the partner agencies and volunteer members of the Impact Council.
  • Maintain awareness of local, state and federal data and trends regarding economic well-being, workforce development, racial and gender equity, mental health and family violence.
  • Monitor and evaluate monthly program data reports and quarterly financial reports.
  • Prepare content for Impact Council reports to the Partners for Community Change Committee and UWSA’s Executive Committee and Board of Trustees.
  • Assist in creating and presenting content related to the Impact Council for the annual United Way community campaign.
  • Supervise the Community Engagement and Logistics Managers in coordination with co-leads of other Councils.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.  Preference also given to candidate with 5+ years’ experience in the field. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Knowledge of the nonprofit arena and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, community partners, donors and volunteers
  • Experience in program evaluation
  • Experience staffing a broad cross-section of volunteer leaders and/or non-profit partners
  • Ability to identify and build opportunities and assist in educating and mobilizing networks of individuals, associations, agencies and institutions to support UWSA’s impact agenda.
  • Experience in working effectively in multicultural environments
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including development of content relevant to the Impact Council for a wide variety of audiences and media
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities and problem-solve issues as they arise
  • Ability to work in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is desired
