Research Manager - Donor Research

This position is responsible for researching, preparing, and providing profiles and reports, both in-depth and otherwise, on potential and identified gift prospects including individuals, family foundations, and corporations. Their responsibilities include conducting research and writing reports in support of Advancement activities for the purpose of identifying possible new and growth individual and company prospects for partnership, and creating tracking, rating and ranking systems for those prospects.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Generate Prospect Leads

  • Proactively identify new high-level individual and company gift leads and prospects through electronic alerts, analysis, screening information, data mining techniques, wealth searches, demographic searches, etc. 
  • Review and refresh prospect pool each campaign year adding leads and prospects to Relationship Manager portfolios.
  • Develop prospect lists for special events, direct mail, programs and other projects

Support Prospect Growth

  • Provide research support for volunteers and staff regarding community connections of companies and prospects, and assists officers in creation of partnership and growth plans
  • Review newspapers, periodicals, financial statements, legal documents and other sources of information to provide current and accurate information to development staff

Prospect Tracking and Reporting

  • Prepare prospect reports for use by team members and serves as prospect tracking and record keeping processes lead
  • Maintain and analyze prospective and upgraded donor and company data and develops current and prospective donor lists and data.
  • Produce current and prospective donor profiles and helps determine appropriate solicitation ranges.
  • In coordination with the Stewardship Manager, lead list management of portfolios regarding movement of qualified/disqualified leads, treatment in database, communication streams, etc.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage budgets to include the research software and data purchases
  • Support all Directors as requested.
  • Participate in all TUW events and activities demonstrating the ability to be a good colleague, proactive collaborator and team builder.
  • Function as an integral member of the RD team assisting with planning, solicitation, implementation and evaluation.
  • Administrative support for organization as required.
  • Participates as a champion, project lead, and/or member of organizational development teams as required.
  • Complete Andar training as appropriate when offered
  • Work outside normal office hours when required to include evenings or weekends and additional hours during peak times.
Educational Background: 
High School diploma with 5-7 years of related experience required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 3-5 years of donor research/development experience in a non-profit fund-raising environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with on-line research required
  • Demonstrated ability to review, evaluate, interpret and organization business and news reports, legal and financial data and biographical information
  • Knowledge of electronic databases, a variety of reference sources, library reference tools, state and federal records and research procedures
  • Extensive Microsoft Office knowledge with emphasis on Excel
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manager and prioritize multiple projects and assignments
  • Collaboration with other staff in a process-driven, high-input, team environment
  • Facilitation of training sessions for small groups of new or intermediate database and research users
  • Positive interpersonal skills in working with colleagues from across the organization and cross-departmentally
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF JOB

  • Exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, within the office setting and relating to the position
  • Must frequently use typical office equipment (telephone, multifunctional devices, postage meter, etc.)
  • Most of time spent sitting at desk
  • Communicates with constituents, staff, volunteers, board members and/or partners by phone and in person
  • Upon request may have to occasionally be mobile within the office and or travel to offsite locations in accordance with position requirements and duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Primarily works in a climate-controlled office-based setting.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $41,000 to $50,000 per year
