The Director of Development & Communications is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of Thrive for Life Prison Project’s:

  • Strategic Development Plan
  • Majors Gifts and Planned Giving programs
  • Fundraising events and activities
  • Branding and external communications
Areas of Responsibility: 

The Director works closely with the leadership team and the Board of Directors in all development and fund-raising endeavors.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

●      Mine and cultivate an expanding base of donors and supporters in order to meet and exceed annual fundraising goals

  • Develop and implement a 5-year Strategic Development Plan including:
    • Major gifts and annual giving 
    • Endowments; capital campaign; and planned giving programs
    • Partnerships with / funding from government, education, employment and housing partners
    • External events and activities
    • Internal and external communications
  • Execution of Strategic Plan:
    • Grow our “development pipeline” to 3-4x that of our annual fundraising budget
    • Build and leverage the fundraising / development skills of all employees, Board members and volunteers
    • Clearly report on our progress in building our development pipeline (#s and $$$) and progress against quarterly and annual fundraising goals
      • Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
      • Direct the annual fund program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives.
      • Direct capital campaigns and other major fundraising drives.
      • Coordinate fundraising special events.
      • Plan and maintain social media presence. 
      • Oversee prospect research.
      • Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems.
      • Oversee creation of publications, annual report, and other communications. 
      • Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
      • Perform other related duties as requested.
Skills/Experience: 

Mission and Faith:

●      Passion and belief in transforming lives behind and beyond the prison walls. 

  • Working knowledge of and passion for Catholic Social Teaching and Ignatian Spirituality
  • Commitment to optimism, social concern for oppressed people and community on the margins, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening skills.

Fundraising:

  • Strategic thinker - ability to grasp and implement the vision of Thrive for Life Prison Project
  • Proven track record - deep knowledge and diverse experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising ($1 million+) at high level social enterprises.
  • Relationship developer - intense desire and proven ability to build and cultivate new, strategic donor relationships
  • Well-trained - professional degree and substantial training in development and fundraising. 

●      Seasoned professional - 5 years minimum experience in professional fundraising.

Interpersonal and Collaboration Skills

  • Outstanding communicator - strong verbal and writing skills.
  • Team player - highly skilled in working with our team, board members and other volunteers.
  • Highly organized – proficient in continuously tracking and clearly communicating status; consistent in meeting or exceeding timeline, budget and performance expectations

●      Technology skills -  Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing a prospect management and tracking system.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary is completely commensurate upon experience and ability to offer the necessary developmental and communication strategy, ability to raise gift giving to new levels, and most importantly, faith filled and commutes to the vision and mission of thrive for life. All is negotiable. 

Also, we are completely open to full time, part time, contract with incentives based performance.
