Job Overview/Summary:

The Director of Corporate Alliances, Institutional Philanthropy & Partnerships (IPP) provides strategic leadership, direction and management to ensure the maximization of private institutional support for the IRC. Accountable for the achievement of contributed revenue targets delivered through a varied portfolio, with a focus on unrestricted and flexible funding, that will include traditional philanthropy, CSR, marketing and cause-linked partnerships, as well as relationships based in the convergence of business and humanitarian interests and objectives from international companies.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Institutional Philanthropy & Partnerships, Director of Corporate Alliances will work in collaboration with a broad constituency of IRC functions, including Communications and Marketing, as well as the larger fundraising team in NY and internationally to coordinate and strengthen the IRC’s global private sector proposition and maximize the impact of private institutional support.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Provide dynamic and effective thought leadership for IPP’s efforts towards increased financial revenue, and other modes of private sector engagement that support impactful delivery of the IRC’s mandate and mission;
  2. Successfully implement IPP’s global engagement and revenue strategy and activities, focused on partnerships multi-national corporations, specifically in areas of employee engagement and match funding, cause marketing and sponsorship;
  3. Lead and support the IPP team’s efforts to engage with the entertainment and media sectors, with a focus on meeting revenue goals as well as marketing and communications goals.  Personally cultivating and soliciting high-level, high-impact partnerships that call for a level of seniority/technical competence where director-level participation is relevant and appropriate;
  4. Inspire, motivate and challenge the team through active mentorship, fostering an environment that supports new ideas and innovative approaches to partnership development and relationship management;
  5. Work with Senior Director, IPP to conceive and deliver appropriate innovations that keep the IRC’s private sector partnership proposition stand-out and relevant, including how the business development and client management functions offer a differentiated opportunity for effective partnerships with global corporations;
  6. Implement a consistent global “one team” approach to the strategic relationship planning, outreach and management for corporations, brands, and other organized groups, towards maximizing the impact of those partnerships in support of the IRC’s mission and mandate, while respecting internal IRC management/reporting structures;
  7. Partner with the Senior Director of IPP to set annual goals and key outcomes for Corporate Alliance’s efforts;
  8. Collaborate with Senior Director of IPP and IRC senior leadership to develop an overarching vision for global private institutional support at the IRC, articulating that vision to key constituencies in order to encourage and develop a cross-functional, multi-location culture of effective and innovative partnership engagement;
  9. With the Senior Director of IPP, lead on the development and implementation of standards, tools and procedures towards a best-in-class approach to employee engagement and fundraising;
  10. Identify private sector market and partnerships trends and competitive strengths and weaknesses to inform IPP’s and the wider Revenue Department’s, approach to external engagement;

Position directly supervises:  Associate Director, Corporate Alliances

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree a plus.

Work Experience:

  • 8+ years professional experience leading and building the infrastructure of a complex private sector revenue program;
  • Proven successful track record of cultivation, solicitation, and management of high-yield, high-value multi-faceted private sector partnerships with an international focus; 
  • Non-profit and/or international humanitarian aid experience a plus.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a high-performing, complex team
  • Ability to define and implement critical near-term and long-term revenue generation strategies concurrently
  • Ability to translate broad vision and strategies into specific objectives
  • Deep understanding and solid grasp of effective business development and relationship management approaches for multi-national corporations
  • Experience of complex partnership development and relationship management in a global context; experience of corporate relations in North America essential
  • Strong, persuasive and compelling interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively
  • Strong comprehension of humanitarian sector actors and trends
  • Strong skills collaborating with multiple and diverse stakeholders across the organization
  • Understanding of and experience of communications strategies in support of income generation and broader stakeholder engagement

Working Environment:  

High pressure, conflicting priorities and multiple projects environment; r emote evening and weekend work as required; some international and US travel.
