The Major Gifts and Giving Society Director will be responsible for developing year-round relationships and fund-raising through affinity groups which include the Leadership Society, Tocqueville Society, Women United and Young Leaders Society. Additionally, this resource development staff member will play a lead role in the planning, coordination and execution of events to engage these key donors to support United Way’s priorities.
As a member of the team, you will report to the Vice President of Resource Development and work with members of the board of directors to develop and execute a well-coordinated UW affinity groups, achieving annual revenue, engagement, and stewardship goals. Bachelor’s degree and five to eight plus years fundraising and/or business development experience required.
- Set direction for and achieve major gift, annual and multi-year revenue goals and performance targets for giving societies and affinity groups.
- Recruit, manage and engage the fundraising committee leaders and volunteers by setting goals and supporting their efforts to drive results in their roles for United Way.
- Plan and manage the cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of major donors and prospects in the workplace and non-workplace sectors.
- Develop, maintain, and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects.
- Coach and support staff and volunteers in training, joint visits, and in the solicitation and closing processes.
- Develop key performance metrics to ensure the major gifts program is operating effectively.
- Define, develop and organize the key elements for giving societies and affinity groups such as event series to include engagement, gratitude, prospecting, and connection to the United Way.
- Expected to spend a minimum of 50% of time out of office meeting with individual donors to average five in-person meetings per week.
- Maintain accurate and detailed donor records in CRM database in order to analyze the effectiveness of delivering objectives according to plan and goals.
- Direct the generation of reports showing overall giving and engagement process, analyzing variances and initiating productive action.
- Collaborate with Community Impact and Gift in Kind Warehouse teams to implement meaningful donor engagement.
- Collaborate with Marketing to create communication materials, tools and events for the cultivation and recognition of existing and prospective and donors.
- Develop and administer an annual operating and engagement budget.
- Five to eight year’s fundraising or sales experience preferred.
- Driver’s license and valid transportation required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities, and able to react and adjust quickly to changing conditions.
- Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively and articulately in writing and orally.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Ability to keep his/her composure with the public and co-workers in everyday, stressful situations.
- Strong customer focus in all tasks and activities, even while at times under pressure.
- Solid relationship management skills enhancing internal organizational relations, external community interactions, and in business development opportunities.
