The Rehabilitation Assistant will instruct adult clients who have a traumatic brain injury in the performance of specific activities and help them keep on task during roup activities and discussions. The inidivdual in this position will create curriculum for client specific activities that support independence.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Instruct clients in community based activities focusing on community reintegration.
- Instruct individual clients and small groups in the performance of specific skills.
- Prepare clients for treatment and apply treatment modalities or assist clients with established treatment programs as directed by supervising therapist.
- Assist clients with personal care issues such as toileting and/or feeding.
- Provide exceptional customer services, both internally and externally.
- Typical work hours are Monday through Friday with hours scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (37.5 hrs weekly).
Support Service
- Assist with supervision of classroom activities.
- Maintain schedule of various rehabilitation therapy appointments for clients participating in the program.
- Assist with clinic and classroom set-up.
- Assist with ensuring that classroom and clinic areas are clean and safe.
- Assist with lunchtime activities, including picking up program items as needed (using program vehicle).
- Provide documentation of client attendance, lunch, and transportation schedule to Program Director.
- Provide documentation of treatments on a daily basis and forward to supervising therapist for signature.
Educational Background:
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED is recommended; or one (1) year experience working in a medical setting or with individuals with disabilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience:
Basic Knowledge of:
- Disabilities and related characteristics of individuals served by the agency.
- Effective interpersonal communication techniques.
- Physical, social and cognitive needs of individuals with functional impairments.
- Basic computer skills using word processing and data management programs.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff, volunteers, clients, and individuals encountered in the course of doing business.
- Follow written and verbal directions.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Learn to operate a variety of rehabilitation equipment and adapted equipment for daily living.
- Learn appropriate documentation and reporting requirements.
- Learn to instruct clients and to apply specific treatment modalities.
Licenses/Certifications
- A valid California Driver’s license, proof of liability insurance, and a driving record that meets the standards of the agency.
- Possession of a current certificate in Basic First Aid and Adult CPR w/AED from an approved provider.
- Position requires fingerprint clearance and background check through the Department of Justice.
- Pre-employment physical.
- Position requires proof of negative TB test within the past twelve (12) months.
