Summary:

Provides personal care services to ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled persons by performing the following duties.

Basic Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Observes clients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
  • Feeds clients, records food and fluid intake.
  • Bathes, dresses, and assists clients in walking and turning.
  • Answers clients call lights.
  • Cleans wheelchairs and charges batteries (night shift).
  • Performs general housekeeping duties on unit (night and weekend option shift). Helps maintain neatness and cleanliness of classroom and other training areas.
  • Assists clients with self-help skills to include toileting, grooming, feeding, etc.
  • Assists clients on field trips or CBI outings (day and evening shift).
  • Assists with preparation of educational displays, bulletin board, etc....
  • Accompanies clients to/from bus stop (day and evening shift).
  • Presents instructional objectives to client or a group of clients.
  • Attends staffings or provides written input as needed for the development and review of IPP.
  • Assists client with appropriate use of adaptive equipment, i.e., communication devices, splints, computer peripherals, etc.
  • Observes and records data to measure and record progress towards objectives.
  • Uses appropriate behavior modification techniques to manage inappropriate behaviors.
  • Checks therapist's orders and positioning schedule for clients’ wheelchair, alternate seating, splints, etc.
  • Accompanies therapeutic recreation staff on outings if necessary to maintain staff/client ratio.
  • Assists clients with recreational activities.
  • Drivers van/bus as needed.
  • Initiates activities/games in absence of planned activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

May be required to report to work before scheduled shift and/or remain after the end of scheduled shift in order to meet mandated staff ratios and adequate service needs for individuals served during inclement weather or emergency situations.

While performing the duties of this job, employee will comply with all federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to Easterseals Arkansas.
 
Employee has access to client protected health information in the CRC personal care working file for persons directly served by this position. Employee will not attempt to access any other protected health information unless otherwise approved by Supervisor or Privacy Officer.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:                                                              
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Language Skills:                                              
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to clients, and other employees of the organization.
 
Mathematical Skills:                                                   
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
 
Reasoning Ability:                                                       
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Arkansas Driver's License

For C Shift ILI's Only: The Children's Rehabilitation Center has employee-to-participant ratio regulations that are managed by a regulatory agency and may require direct care employees identified as part of the employee-to-participant ratio to complete their scheduled work shift without and unpaid meal break being provided. This position requires that staffing ratios will be maintained in all areas at all times. This position will remain actively engaged and responsible for the active treatment, care and safety of the individuals served. Modified work schedules and approved or required overtime is at the discretion of the Program Supervisor and may be changed at anytime based upon needs of the individuals served and program requirements.
