POSITION SUMMARY:  The Physical Therapist functions as an integral member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team, providing outpatient evaluation, treatment and consultation services to children and adults and their families.  The Physical Therapist focuses evaluation and treatment primarily on gross motor, balance, coordination, lower extremity function, and strength. The Physical Therapist develops treatment plans that:

  • improve function and enhance activities of daily life,

  • focus on the individual’s and the family’s stated needs,

  • are individualized to address each client’s unique needs, overcoming acknowledged weaknesses by identifying and using their strengths,

  • involve the client’s natural support system of family and friends to ensure generalization of skills learned in therapy sessions, and

  • require consistent practice and repetition between therapy sessions to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the treatment plan.

 

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Although it is not possible to provide an exhaustive list of all types of duties, responsibilities and performance standards, the following are essential job functions:

  1. Be at work on time and ready to start work.

  2. Regular attendance required during regular business hours; is subject to supervision during working hours; requires interactions with coworkers and supervisors.

  3. Participates in Easterseals North Texas meetings as required and appropriate.

  4. Knows and abides by Easterseals North Texas policies and procedures.

  5. Promotes a unified, team-oriented atmosphere in all communications and actions.

  6. Is professional in appearance and demeanor.

  7. Contributes to providing quality care for clients of Easterseals North Texas in whatever capacity is required in accordance with skills and training.

  8. Maintains awareness of trends and best practices.

 

Direct Services

  1. Evaluates clients referred for physical therapy services using established evaluation procedures and standardized assessments.

  2. Develops short- and long-term treatment goals, plans and objectives (Plan of Care) based upon the initial evaluation and program requirements, and updates Plans of Care in accordance with standards.

  3. Coaches family members and/or client in strategies and opportunities for incorporating new skills or techniques into normal routines and activities at home and other natural environments such as school or childcare center, church, a play group or relative’s home, etc.

  4. Instructs client and family members in the proper and safe use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology.

  5. Assists in coordinating services and makes appropriate referrals as needed.

 

Compliance

  1. Records client testing results, treatments, responses, and progress on designated forms.

  2. Completes all evaluations, treatment progress notes, and discharge summaries and all other required records and paperwork in a timely manner according to stated policy.

  3. Develops and maintains all client progress reports and documentation, in compliance with Easterseals North Texas policy and procedure and all other applicable standards, requirements, laws, rule and regulations.

  4. Reviews client charts and documents the review according to Easterseals North Texas policy and procedure for quality assurance on a biannual basis.

  5. Attends Plan of Care review meetings as required.

  6. Ensures client and family confidentiality by complying with Easterseals North Texas policy and procedure, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accessibility Act) requirements, and any other privacy requirements as may be specified by referral sources, funders or other licensing and regulatory entities.

  7. Ensures the safety and security of clients, staff, volunteers and visitors by knowing and following all safety procedures as required by Easterseals North Texas policy and procedure and any other referral sources, funders or other licensing and regulatory entities, and understands the consequences of non-compliance.

  8. Is familiar with Medicare CORF regulations.


Training

  1. Develops and presents staff in-service trainings as necessary.

  2. Attends and participates in general staff meetings as necessary.

  3. Assists in developing and presenting community education and/or training as necessary.

 

Customer Service

  1. Provides exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.

  2. Maintains an effective and professional working relationship with consumers and their families/care providers, co-workers and referral sources.

  3. Works and communicates as a member of a treatment team.

 

Clinical Leadership

  1. Serves as the Therapist in Charge for the North Dallas center per ECPTOTE; is aware of and follows all applicable ECPTOTE rules and regulations.

 

Qualifications:

Education:  Master's degree

Professional Certification:  Licensed as an physical therapist in the state of Texas 

Required major or emphasis in:  Physical therapy

Work experience:  Two or more years in related setting preferred.

Knowledge:  Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems.

Skills/Abilities:  Ability to work in collaborative setting with multiple providers (Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Social Workers, Audiologists, Board Certified Behavior Analysts) required. 

Physical limitations:  Transfer, lift, carry, push or pull up to 25 pounds; walk, bend, squat, reach, crawl, and kneel; move mats and other equipment.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

  • Must show proof of certification and license to practice physical therapy.

  • Current driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance if travel is required.

  • Certified, by an approved provider, in Adult CPR with AED and Infant/Child CPR.

  • Certified, by an approved provider, in Basic First Aid.

     

Additional Notes:WORKING CONDITIONS AND HOURS: Outpatient rehabilitation clinic and office conditions with some work in storage areas. Local travel throughout DFW area may be required. General working hours are set but will be determined in consultation with supervisor. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30-6:00. Some additional hours may be available earlier in the morning on these days as caseload increases. Flexibility in hours will be determined in consultation with supervisor.
