The successful candidate will work closely with the Sr. VP of Community Impact (CI) to research and develop grants to support continuing and new initiatives and programs of United Way of the Midlands. The Manager also will manage the reporting process for grants received by UWM.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Grant Development

  • Research foundations and corporations to develop prospects for grants to support community impact work.
  • Write case for support for proposals or requests.  Work with Community Impact colleagues to collect internal program data and information and research public or community data. 
  • Manage grant application development including writing grant sections and working with colleagues to develop sections.
  • Create and manage folders for documentation required for grant applications.
  • Secure documentation and data from Finance to support applications and finalize grant budgets.
  • Ensure external supporting documentation (letters of support, MOAs, etc.) is secured in a timely manner for submission.
  • Manage submission process including compiling, formatting and submitting grants.
  • Assist CI staff with grant renewals.
  • Assist with setting appointments for Sr. VP, CEO or senior RD staff with funders.

Grant management

  • Develop and maintain systems for monitoring requirements of each grant to ensure grant reporting and compliance.
  • Coordinate with CI staff to secure timely and accurate program performance data, assist with report writing.
  • Secure financial data for program reports.
  • Coordinate with Communications staff regarding recognition and press requirements for grants.
  • Schedule site visits of funders as required.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or experience in related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong written communications skills; ability to write concise, clear, persuasive proposals.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical and data skills. Ability to present data concisely.
  • Highly organized with an ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate projects across and within departments.
  • Background, training and experience with grant development and management.
  • Candidates must consistently demonstrate the ability to work independently as a member of an impact team.
