The Major Gifts Officer coordinates and manages the qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of individual donors currently at the Leadership Giving Level ($1,000+) and Tocqueville Giving Level ($10,000+) and prospects in workplace and non-workplace sectors, as assigned, and collaborates with the Resource Development Team to grow a portfolio of gifts at $100K+. Strategically engage and cultivate a portfolio of 75-125 Major Gifts prospects to ultimately solicit for a Major Gift. Will be expected to strategically engage president, campaign leadership, organizational senior leadership, the corporate relations team, and the Volunteer Services team as collaborative partners. Works directly with volunteers to ensure donor growth and retention.
- Responsible for prospecting, cultivating, and stewarding donors Leadership and Tocqueville donors for United Way, to achieve financial goals with benchmark activity metrics.
- In collaboration with Corporate Engagement Managers and other members of the Resource Development team, identify and grow current and prospective leadership donors and implement Leadership and Tocqueville Campaigns within key corporate workplace accounts.
- Recruit, equip, and manage volunteers to help drive and grow a Major Gifts strategy.
- Develop a pipeline portfolio of major giving prospects, which includes low-level donors with the capacity to become Tocqueville givers and other prospective Leadership givers in the community not currently part of a workplace campaign.
- Personally initiate and cultivate one-to-one relationships with current and prospective leadership givers in an effort to enhance the donor’s connection and lifetime loyalty to United Way.
- Create internal and external stewardship processes that support a culture of sustained Leadership giving.
- Design highly customized donor engagement plans in collaboration with other development staff.
- Brief and prepare executive leadership for fundraising cultivation and asks of potential major donors.
- Execute best practices to reclaim lapsing and lapsed leadership donors.
- Collaborate with team to execute donor recognition and stewardship program.
- Work with members of the events team and volunteers to develop and execute donor events.
- Manage donor information system, which includes capturing information, documenting contacts, and producing reports as required within the organization’s customer relationship database, Andar.
- Stay current on trends, best practices, and research around leadership givers.
- Tailor proposals to individual donors.
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the management team.
- Minimum of three years of fundraising experience.
- Demonstrated ability to secure individual gifts of $10,000 or more.
- Ability to cultivate, engage, and maintain relationships with donors and volunteers.
- Comfort and demonstrated ability to interface with executive management.
- Superior and effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Comfortable presenting to large and diverse groups.
- Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Utilizes creative customer-focused service skills to achieve desired results.
- Possesses a collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit, as well as the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage concurrent projects and day-to-day tasks effectively within a fast-paced environment.
- Operates effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office environment. Strong donor database experience.
