Summary:Provides mental health services in a classroom consultative or short-term setting, to address the behavioral/mental health needs of enrolled children and families with a focus on providing early intervention and prevention services to improve the emotional well-being, cognitive skills, general adaptive functioning, and social competence of children and families, according to the agency mission and philosophy and department goals.
Basic Responsibilities:- Provides at each site care observations and recommendations regarding social-emotional environment to assist in identifying children in need of special assistance for behavioral, emotional, or developmental concerns.
- Provide general observations and feedback, advice staff and caregivers on children with IEP’s and IFSP’s.
Provides consultation and observation of specific children and develops written intervention strategies utilizing a team approach to assist staff in positive behavior management and promoting optimal social-emotional development. - Provides consultation to service providers, directors, managers, and other team members regarding enrolled children, families various assessment tools, and classroom and playgroup milieu.
Provides playgroup observation and consultation. - Provides staff and parent training on topics related to mental health, wellness and child development.
- Provides consultation to staff/parents in the home, school, or other safe location regarding mental health, behavioral, or developmental concerns of their children.
Compiles data as required by the Mental Health Consultation to Childcare Program and submits paperwork into the Family and Community Partnership Coordinator. - Uses independent judgment and discretion in setting daily priorities to complete tasks.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to linguistic, cultural, social, economic, individual, and role differences among persons and families served.
Provides services that are family-centered and relationship-based.
Actively participates in training and supervision. - Adheres to the Agency Core Values and the Code of Ethics NAEYC.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Early Childhood or related field.
Experience Required:
- Experience working with children ages birth to five and their families.
- Working in a classroom setting and /or consulting with teacher.
- Working with economically disadvantaged and culturally diverse population, and special education procedures and the special needs of young children with disabilities and their families.
Vehicle/Transportation Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Auto insurance.
- Reliable vehicle.
Skills/Abilities:
- Must have the ability to use initiative and judgment in selecting proper course of action in unusual or emergency situations.
- Excellent organizational skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Email, Excel, etc.).
- Must be able to relate well with families and their needs.
- Must be able to work cooperatively within a team-based atmosphere.
- Adheres to agency policies & procedures.
- Meets department performance/productivity standards.
- Must be eligible and able to obtain a fingerprint card.
- Must be certified in CPR/First Aid.
