United Way of Southeast Missouri fights for the health, education and financial stability of everyone in the counties we serve: Cape Girardeau, Scott, Perry, and Bollinger. What began as a community fund in 1954 became a United Way in 1970. In the last decade, we embraced the Community Impact model, evolving into an influential nonprofit leader identifying solutions and working with others to create change.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Director of Donor Development (DDD) will report directly to the Executive Director and:

  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Community Relations Manager to identify and nurture relationships with existing donors
  • Help to grow donor relations in new industries, workplaces, small businesses, affiliate groups, and under-developed regions of our footprint
  • Create and execute programs that have not yet been launched, such as:
    • Major gifts, endowments and planned gifts
    • Long-term multi-year initiatives
    • Creation of affiliate programs for retirees and High Net Worth Individuals
  • Develop and execute events and opportunities to educate and engage current and potential donors, such as strategic Lunch & Learns and Live United Tours
  • Conduct research to identify and apply for additional grants and foundations that support our mission, community, and network.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree, 5+ years of experience in fundraising, business development or sales
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, maturity, good judgment and be capable of communicating with a diverse range of individuals
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
  • Experience developing plans of action, including project review and measurement
  • Personal and professional integrity and values consistent with the United Way mission
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $41,000 to $50,000 per year
