This position is a frontline fundraising position for the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), reporting to the Executive Director and responsible for preparing and submitting grant proposals on behalf of the IOCDF. This position will require a deep and thorough understanding of the IOCDF’s existing programs, and areas of funding need. The position will research to identify and follow-up on potential funding opportunities to support existing and planned programs. The Grant Writer / Philanthropy Officer will be responsible for submitting complete proposals in writing or electronically within required time frames. The Grant Writer / Philanthropy Officer is responsible for furthering the mission of the foundation by conducting major gifts and grant solicitations and other fundraising activities to maintain a high level of public awareness about the IOCDF and the importance of philanthropic donations to its programs and services. Working closely with the Executive Director, Board Development Committee, the Development Officer, and other IOCDF departments.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Grant Writing

  • Responsible for grant writing and reporting to include conducting research into new opportunities for grant funding.
  • Works to identify new funding sources and performs all necessary follow-up on proposals.
  • Responsible for researching potential Corporate Sponsors for various projects and campaigns.

Major Donor Relations

  • Prepare and coordinate “asks” of potential and current top tier ($25K+) major donors and Corporate Sponsors.
  • Writing donor profiles for newsletters when appropriate (i.e., a recent donor has engaged in a fundraising strategy that might be less known to our community).
  • Write customized reports for major donors ($25K+).
  • Actively promote enrollment in the IOCDF Legacy Society (our planned giving program) to donors.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of the strategy, messaging, and implementation of all direct mail fundraising appeals.
  • Project manager for the Annual Report including pulling together the content, identifying a theme and core message that is played throughout the report, and writing a draft. Ensures that Annual Report stays on schedule and is disseminated to top tier donors in a timely fashion.
  • Research various work place giving opportunities, and develop a strategic plan to increase funding from these sources including the Combined Federal Campaign application.
  • Ensure that IOCDF’s information on websites like Guidestar and Charity Navigator are accurate and up to date.
Educational Background: 
4-year degree in a related field from an accredited college or university is required
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a development or grant writing position, preferably in the not-for-profit health, mental health, or social service sector.
  • A successful track record of grant-writing for a nonprofit organization of similar size.
  • Must possess strong skills in fundraising, relationship building, and customer service.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a strong team environment.
  • Must be flexible and open to changing needs and priorities.
  • A self-motivated problem-solver with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Skill and ability to represent the IOCDF responsibly and professionally to the OCD community, the community at large, a diverse board, affiliates, and the other groups and organizations that the Foundation works with.
  • Demonstrated success in working with an audience with whom compassion, confidentiality, and sensitivity are critical.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with Salesforce (or similar donor management platform) experience required.
  • Background in research preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary range $50,000 - $60,000, commensurate with experience.

The IOCDF is committed to changing that statistic through our flagship Behavior Therapy Training (BTTI)and other training programs for professionals.

IOCDF Research Grant Program

  • The IOCDF awards grants to investigators whose research focuses on the causes and treatment of OCD and related disorders. The money to fund these awards is donated by our members and friends of the Foundation. Since 1994, over $2,700,000 in research grants have been awarded.

IOCDF Genetics Collaborative

  • The IOCDF Genetics Collaborative is a multi-national group that encourages researchers focusing in genetics to work with one another and to share their findings and DNA samples. The goal of the Board is to identify the genetic causes of OCD Educational Resources.
