Colin’s Hope is an Austin, Texas based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to provide education, tools and resources to parents, caregivers, and children to prevent children from drowning.

Position Overview:

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the organization, including fund development, resource allocation, and business operations. The Director establishes clear goals and direction of the organization, inspires and leads a diverse team of professionals and volunteers, advises and informs the board of directors, and champions the organization's strategic vision, goals, and values.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Drive fund development and fundraising in collaboration with the staff and Board of Directors to cultivate, solicit and steward donors to ensure positive revenue generation from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other relevant entities including grant writing and procurement.

  • Provide leadership, management, and strategic direction to achieve the organization’s annual goals, and to position Colin’s Hope for future success.

  • Plan, actively manage, and oversee the budget, fundraising, and operations while ensuring Colin’s Hope financial sustainability.

  • Oversee day-to-day organization and strategic programs as defined by the Strategic Plan.

  • Actively engage in fiscal management through hands-on budgetary development and oversight and routinely report performance and financial activities to the Board of Directors.

  • Supervise and manage staff, key volunteers, and interns.

  • Ensure compliance and transparency with all nonprofit regulations and requirements.

  • Oversee Colin’s Hope participation and leadership in local, state, and national water safety organizations.

  • Collaborate with local, state, and national sources to track child drowning statistics, trends, and best practices in drowning prevention.

  • Present at local, state, and national industry related events.

  • Establish partnerships with appropriate organizations to further the mission of drowning prevention at the local, state, and national levels.

  • Provide thoughtful executive leadership that is inclusive, transparent, and empowering in a manner that supports and guides the mission of Colin’s Hope as defined by the Board of Directors.

  • Develop, track, and manage the organizational budget.

  • Deploy fundraising events and programs such as the Best Day Ever Party, Got2Swim, etc.

Skills/Experience: 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Dedication and commitment to Colin’s Hope mission, programs and values

  • Proven fundraising and fund development experience

  • Experience developing a strategic plan and/or a business plan

  • Excellent leadership, management skills, and demonstrate good judgment

  • Strong knowledge of and experience with nonprofit accounting principles and financial procedures

  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including public speaking

  • Experience collaborating with public and private entities, and initiating and maintaining good relations with business and community partners

  • A valid driver’s license, good driving record and proof of automotive liability insurance

Exceptional Candidates will have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher, or some combination of comparable education and experience

  • A minimum of 5 years in a leadership/ executive level role

  • Availability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate organizational needs

  • Water safety knowledge and/or experience as an aquatic professional,  water safety teacher, instructor, or lifeguard

  • Experience with event planning and coordination

  • Experience working with community partners, volunteers and families of varying socio-economic backgrounds  

  • Demonstrated success in working with diverse individuals and groups on community issues

  • Experience writing, securing and managing grants

  • Experience using a CRM database (Neon preferred)

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Compensation/Benefits: 

Compensation: Salaried Position $60k-$80k, DOE

Additional Information: 

Work Environment:

This job offers the possibility of remote work and will regularly require in-person work in professional office environments and various community locations such as public and private swimming pools, government buildings, and event centers. This role is expected to be open to overnight travel up to 10% of the time. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Any reasonable accommodations needed to perform these duties will be provided for and considered. 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Ability to pick up or carry items up to 20lbs, or transport boxes up to 30lbs. with the appropriate support tools such as a dolly, etc.
