Oversees all aspects of United Way of Kennebec Valley’s (UWKV’s) resource development/fundraising strategies and initiatives, and all marketing and communication efforts. This includes maintaining and enhancing current successful programming and creating new resource streams and initiatives. This position increases awareness and understanding of United Way's mission and work in the community.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Direct fundraising strategies for United Way’s $1.75 million annual campaign, including volunteer coordination of Campaign Chairs and the Campaign Cabinet
  • Conduct frequent public and workplace presentations in order to nurture relationships with existing and prospective donors and businesses
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop goals for UWKV’s resource development and marketing initiatives and direct the implementation of long- and short-term plans to meet those goals
  • Develop and design all annual marketing materials, advertisements, campaign themes, and campaign videos
  • Plan and execute all agency events, including three annual campaign events, leadership and Tocqueville socials, student volunteer days, a golf tournament, and opportunities for Emerging Leaders
  • Cultivate and sustain positive, productive relationships with volunteers, community and business leaders, donors, and staff.
  • Responsible for managing and leading all resource development efforts, including corporate relations, new businesses/partnerships, leadership-level giving, planned giving, and general donor relations
  • Collaborate with the Board to direct and support several committees, including the Resource Development Committee, Legacy/Retiree Committee, Emerging Leaders Advisory Council, and Campaign Cabinet subcommittees
  • Manage United Way's online presence, including the organization's website, social media pages, and monthly newsletter
  • Direct and grow several United Way initiatives, including the planned giving program, Emerging Leaders Society, and 365 Small Business Circle
  • Maintain a strong relationship with local news and radio sources, publishing press releases as needed
  • Provide back-up to other staff members by answering the telephone, greeting visitors, routing calls and handling a variety of inquiries, as needed
  • Support an organizational culture of integrity, transparency, service and professionalism. Model behavior consistent with the mission and purpose of the United Way
  • Maintain strict privacy and confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Fulfill other duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-plus years working in fundraising, marketing, and/or communications, preferably in nonprofit health and human service organizations
  • Comfort and proficiency with presentation skills both one-on-one and publicly
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop
  • Experience managing websites, social media, and electronic communications programs
  • Fluent in the English language, both oral and written, including correct punctuation, spelling and grammatical usage. Strong proofreading and editing skills a must
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Ability to complete basic math as well as review and interpret reports and graphs
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, plan, and have a sense of urgency with deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Team player with ability to work with diverse personalities
  • Courteous, pleasant and professional manner, both in person and on the telephone
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of United Way is essential
  • Proof and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation
