The AmeriCorps VISTA will help identify, assess, build and expand programs that provide free tax preparation for low income workers, financial education/coaching, and job skills/training leading to successful employment. The VISTA Income Specialist will be an integral part of this work by coordinating an effort to identify existing resources for, and the unmet needs of, the low-income community; increase community awareness; and seek effective solutions.

We seek an outgoing individual who has the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, understands how to communicate effectively with a variety of different stakeholders and exhibits a passion for wanting to help make poverty history.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The VISTA Income Specialist will

  • Review and update community map of programs that provide tax prep, financial education, job training/skill development services and evaluate the effectiveness of those programs;
  • Identify unmet needs of low income residents including un/under employed, and recommend strategies and services to address those needs;
  • Build/enhance relationships with new/current partners working to address economic development and empower individuals and families living in poverty to improve their economic status through job skills training and employment opportunities;
  • Recruit, train, coordinate and communicate with community/corporate volunteers to participate in poverty reduction initiatives;
  • Assist in communicating the needs of low income residents and programs/resources available to meet them; and
  • Plan and execute two episodic volunteer events that create a greater awareness in the community about the struggles of people living in poverty.
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor's Degree
