Associate Vice President, Community Impact

Focused on developing and executing initiatives that represent the current strategic priorities of the Community Impact department and Bold Goals agenda. These initiatives can range from programmatic design and management, development and oversight of department-wide initiatives and Community Impact staff development.

Responsible for managing specific staff team and developing/maintaining strong working relationships with community partners (volunteers, funded partners, and other stakeholders).  Serves as subject matter expert in administration of specific components of the Community Impact agenda and works closely with the CI staff in program development and monitoring, technical assistance to partners to ensure proper implementation of the model, reviewing data and developing strategies to strengthen programs. Develops effective feedback mechanisms between the VP, Community Impact and CI staff to ensure that relevant staff are working in alignment to the Bold Goal agenda and annual implementation plans.

This specific opening will oversee the Bold Goal 1 (65% of APS third-graders reading at or above grade level), Bold Goal 2 (90% of APS high-schoolers graduating in 4 years, with 60% college/career ready), and Bold Goal 4 (Reduce ER Visits due to drug overdoses to 1,000) initiatives and staff. This includes the management of the Director, Community Health, Director, Childhood Education and Director, College & Career Readiness.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • 25%  Serves as a thought partner with Vice President, Community Impact to develop and execute department-wide projects that impact both internal and external stakeholders. This includes business processes, reports, and staff development. Keeps the VP, CI abreast of opportunities, challenges and innovative approaches that could impact the effectiveness of department strategies.
  • 50%  Supervise: Delegates measurable work to assigned staff to achieve goals. Identifies and coaches staff regarding developmental needs in line with organizational goals and policies. Serves on the Interview Committee. Manages all staff assigned to areas of responsibility. Prepares and implements measurable annual work plans to achieve the assigned goals. Identifies, advises and counsels staff regarding developmental needs in line with corporate goals and policies. Management of current staff includes Director, Community Health; Director, Childhood Education; and Director, College & Career Readiness.
  • 15%  Organizes and leads community development plans to further the strategic implementation of assigned Bold Goal strategies relying on data research and analysis. Develops and maintains strategic relationships within the community assuring an effective and solid working relationships between UWSC and other partners seeking to achieve aligned goals and objectives. Attends events and programs related to key priorities. Works with volunteers in the development and implementation of key strategic Bold Goal strategies.

Percentage of Time

  • 5%  Provide expert knowledge of programmatic work to assist with public policy, advocacy and grant-making as part of assigned areas of responsibility.
  • 5%  Engagement: Participation and support in assigned engagement calendar events, marketing events, and related preparatory meetings.

JOB EXPECTATIONS: 75% Internal / 25% External Facing

JOB RELATIONSHIPS WITH: Vice President, Community Impact; Community Impact Team; all department heads and other AVPs; Grant Development; Corporate and Community Engagement team.

DEGREE OF AUTONOMY: Work is performed independently within broad practices and procedures covered by functional precedents and policies that may occasionally require development of new procedures to accommodate changing requirements.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Advanced degree, preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related field, required.
  • Prior staff management and supervision experience required.
  • Leadership role providing direct services in areas related to UWSC’s Bold Goals preferred.
  • Competent in MS Office products.

PHYSICAL/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position is primarily a normal office setting, requiring long periods of sedentary work at a desk and computer.
  • Ability to routinely travel throughout multi-floor office utilizing stairs or elevator.
  • Minimal lifting up to 10 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment testing including background check, drug and alcohol screen.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop.
  • Must be willing to work non-standard work schedule including nights, weekends, and other unusual hours on occasion.
  • After-hours event attendance occasionally.
  • Some overnight travel may be required.
  • Valid driver license and proof of insurance with ability to pass annual motor vehicle report check in compliance with corporate insurance requirements.
  • Access to reliable insured automobile to be used for work-related travel in Summit County area.
  • Less than 5% of travel.
