Easter Seals Massachusetts is seeking a Lifeguard responsible for ensuring the safety of students, staff and community patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies in and/or around the pool and waterfront area at the Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children in Canton, MA.

Basic Responsibilities:

  • Enforce all MHS and state policies, rules and regulations relative to the pool and waterfront area
  • Recognize and respond effectively and appropriately to aquatic emergencies by using proper lifeguarding and first aid techniques as governed by the American Red Cross and MHS code procedures
  • Protect and maintain the dignity and confidentiality of others during stressful and/or emergency situations
  • Ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations by inspection of pool and waterfront area for maintenance and potential hazards
  • Analyze water samples and chemical balances in accordance with state & local regulations to ensure safe swimming conditions
  • Report unsafe conditions and faulty equipment to Aquatics Director or supervisor
  • Complete reports and records in a timely manner
  • Participate in continuing education services to maintain certification and improve performance and conditioning
  • Provide education and information to students, staff and MHS community regarding the benefits of aquatic activity, pool rules and state/local safety regulations
  • Knowledge and assistance with wheelchair transfers and entrance/exit to pool

Qualifications:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • American Red Cross Community First Aid & Safety
  • Must be 18 years of age 

Required Experience:

  • Advanced swimming skills and physical strength
  • Ability to maintain a calm manner in a stressful and/or emergency situation
  • Ability to exercise leadership in group situations
  • Ability to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress
  • Ability to give oral instructions in a precise, understandable, respectful manner
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationship with others
  • Ability to establish rapport with persons from different background including, but not limited to, physical ability, ethnic/cultural, sexual orientation, and/or economic background
