The purpose of this position is to manage and guide development of digital consumer health and professional education content for marchofdimes.org in a variety of media, including articles, features, infographics and videos.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Research, write, edit and publish compelling digital consumer health content on preconception, pregnancy, postpartum and newborn health, including articles, features, infographics and videos; develop new content and revise existing content in keeping with emerging health news; meet deadlines consistently; maintain articles using the Foundation’s content management system.
- Manage expansion, buildout and maintenance of the professionals section of the website, including Prematurity Campaign Collaborative pages; research, write, edit and publish compelling content for professionals; develop of new content and revise existing content in keeping with emerging health news; solicit guest authors; meet deadlines consistently; maintain articles using the Foundation’s content management system.
- Adhere to Foundation and Division editorial standards and practices, including plain language and health literacy guidelines, to ensure accuracy and consistency. Properly cite sources. Demonstrate knowledge of leading style manuals, such as Associated Press (AP), American Medical Association (AMA) and American Psychiatric Association (APA). Show strong grammar, punctuation, spelling and proofreading skills.
- Identify digital health education trends, best practices for search engine optimization and ways to improve user experience on Foundation websites.
- Manage EHP’s relationship with external content partners, including ShareCare, an external wellness site that hosts March of Dimes content.
- Manage freelance writers including initial identification/contract signing/invoicing; reviewing/editing copy; and providing feedback on work submitted.
Educational Background:
Four year college degree preferably in English or Health Education/Communication or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience:
- 5-7 years of direct related experience.
- Professional writing background and strong research skills are needed.
- Writing and editing experience in health education, specifically plain language and health literacy, is preferred.
- The person in this position must be able to stay on top of changing trends in both health communications and technology.
- The person must be able to manage and schedule freelancers who work offsite.
