PSI is seeking an experienced, SBC Technical Advisor for its Malaria Department to support PSI’s rapidly expanding portfolio of malaria programs in over 30 countries, worldwide, which accounts for more than a third of the total business. PSI’s new global strategy focuses on improving consumer powered healthcare through shaping market systems, shifting policy and funding and strengthening global capacity. For the Malaria Department this means moving quality malaria case management closer to consumers; bringing next generations LLINs to market; scaling response driven surveillance to accelerate malaria elimination progress and maximizing the control value of drug-based prevention interventions.
The Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Technical Advisor provides a cross-cutting function within the Malaria, Child Survival and Sanitation Department (MCSD) taking responsibility for overseeing social and behavior change (SBC) activities across a global portfolio of projects and priority health areas. The SBC Advisor will also provide support and serve as a liaison to the Marketing Department as PSI rolls out its revised marketing planning process and strategic thinking around tools for empathy, insights and prototyping. The SBC Advisor will provide direct technical assistance in SBC for malaria and sanitation programs as needed, as well as supporting a larger behavior change learning agenda. In collaboration with partners, other PSI Marketing/SBC staff and consultants, the SBC Advisor will develop and implement strategies and activities for SBC capacity building at country, regional and global levels. The SBC Advisor will also document and disseminate program impacts to contribute to SBC knowledge management at all levels.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide technical assistance to country and regional programs in development of SBC strategies and interventions to support MCSD programs.
- Develop and implement specific capacity building approaches through a variety of direct and distance methods.
- Ensure SBC activities in MCSD projects are designed according to organization and industry best practices, PSI lessons learned, and donor requirements.
- Work closely with PSI network members and partners who support implementation of SBC activities in countries and regions to ensure consistency and quality of SBC approaches, methods, and materials from formative research to monitoring evaluation phases of implementation.
- Contribute to project cross learning efforts between country programs and ensure best practices and lessons learned are shared related to SBC.
- Contribute to SBC learning activities including documentation of activities through reports, presentations, and other means, and to dissemination of this knowledge as needed.
- Participate in analysis and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative research information as needed in collaboration with other members of knowledge leadership and learning team.
- 8-10 years of relevant experience in support of large projects and/or programs, with at least 5 years of in-country or distant support for SBC programming.
- Ability to manage projects, set realistic priorities, and plan for the successful implementation of activities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of SBC theory and practice.
- Experience in provision of technical assistance and capacity building/training to support SBC for public health programming.
- Understanding of monitoring and evaluation approaches for SBC interventions
- Ability to influence, motivate, negotiate, and work well with others
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
- Relevant computer software skills (including, at a minimum, the standard applications in MS Office).
- Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English; fluency in French or Spanish preferred.
