Cancer deaths in Africa are projected to double in the next fifteen years. Yet the global market for cancer treatment functions poorly for people with cancer in Sub-Saharan Africa, resulting in high prices and limited availability that keep access to treatment below 10%. The American Cancer Society’s Global Cancer Treatment program works to improve access to cancer treatment in Sub-Saharan Africa with projects in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, and RwandaThe Senior Global Oncology Clinical Analyst directs a portfolio that focuses on providing technical, clinical support in the areas of cancer treatment guidelines, training of oncology nurses and pharmacists, safe handling and administration of chemotherapy, and forecasting and procurement of chemotherapy. In this work, The American Cancer Society works closely with our partners at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), IBM, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), and African cancer experts. The Analyst also works closely with other members of a small headquarters team, ministries of health, and program staff based in our partner countries.
- Lead technical support for ChemoQuant, an online chemotherapy forecasting tool developed through a partnership with IBM. Utilize a detailed understanding of cancer treatment protocols and drug therapy to add additional functionality to the tool, working closely with our partners at IBM.
- Provide technical support for ChemoSafe, a collaboration with African health ministries to improve safe handling and administration of chemotherapy, including development of training, standard operating procedures, facility strengthening plans, documentation, incident reporting systems, and access to personal protective equipment.
- Work closely with our partners at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) on projects to improve the market for cancer treatment, linking our African partners to high-quality, cost-competitive suppliers.
- Support a collaboration with African cancer experts and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) to adapt existing cancer treatment guidelines for use in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Collaborate with African health ministries to facilitate uptake and implementation of updated treatment guidelines.
- Monitor and document progress against project objectives, adjusting implementation as needed.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Participate in the development of technical resources such as facility assessments, handbooks, guidelines, tracking tools, and training programs.
- Contribute technical expertise, as needed, to other projects focused on improving access to cancer treatment.
- Familiarity with cancer treatment, including clinical care, chemotherapy administration, chemotherapy compounding, medications and treatment protocols

SPECIALIZED TRAINING OR KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in a field of clinical oncology, such as pharmacy or nursing.
- Experience working in resource-limited settings preferred.
