United Way NCA seeks an aspiring newly graduate student or a young professional to serve as its Research Assistant. The Research Assistant will work toward long lasting, meaningful community impact in the National Capital Area by conducting relevant program performance research and analysis of United Way NCA’s main programs.The Research Assistant will undertake research (1) to inform the Community Impact (CI) team in execution of United Way NCA’s 2018-2019 Community Impact Grant, (2) support the data collection and analysis of the five year regional Community Commitment Initiative, as well as (3) conduct research and literature review to assist the implementation of Community Conversations. Specifically, this Research Assistant will work closely with the Research & Program Evaluation Specialist to track and measure the programmatic progress of nonprofit partners in order to better understand the impact of community investment and community improvement.
CI Grant Analysis
- Tracking program performances and updates from the 2018 Community Impact (CI) grantee reports;
- Developing appropriate quality metrics for each grantee, assessing program progress and report quality to monitor current grantees’ performance;
- Drafting summaries, overviews and other writing documents to review research findings and provide recommendations for strategic community investment.
Research & Analysis Support
- Conducting data collection and data entry for relevant Community Commitment reports;
- Assisting the Specialist in preparing summaries and technical assistance sessions for the partners;
- Researching relevant public policy issues in the region, conducting literature reviews and preparing high-level summaries to support the Community Conversations implementation;
- Other duties may include collaborative assignments with other divisions, such as providing research support for organizational marketing and development efforts.
- Solid relevant internship experience or 1-2 years of full-time work experience with nonprofit, human services or government organization;
- Excellent research and writing skills (work samples required);
- Strong analytical and data synthesis skills;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites and familiarity with analytical tools;
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize competing demands;
- Effective team player and proactive problem-solver;
- Strict attention to deadlines and details;
- High level of responsibility, accountability and confidentiality;
