Kitchen Coordinator (Eastside Adult Services: Bellevue)

The Kitchen Coordinator is an integral member of the center staff. This position is responsible for Food Preparation, Food Program Compliance, and Kitchen Maintenance. Part time, 25-30 hours per week. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Food Preparation & Food Program Compliance

  • Assist with and/or place meal service orders 
  • Oversee the acceptance of prepared meals; monitor and maintain appropriate food temperatures based on health department requirements
  • Prepare and arrange morning beverage services for participants
  • Perform lunch preparation work to include delivery of trays, utensils, napkins to each group room or delegate task to kitchen volunteer.
  • Prepare lunch alternative daily for participants with dietary restrictions; ensure appropriate delivery
  • Prepare and store food as per state health regulations
  • Ensure compliance with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines, and conduct and submit accurate documentation monthly

Kitchen Maintenance

  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness as per state health regulations, including but not limited to washing and/or sanitizing of dishes, kitchen surfaces, and kitchen equipment
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment in the kitchen prior to end of shift
  • Properly mark/date grocery items and store accordingly; ensure removal and disposal of expired items

General Duties

  • Ensure proper personal hygiene and grooming standards as per state health regulations for food service workers
  • Perform set-up and activity clean-up duties for program and/or kitchen as needed.
  • Attend regular staff meetings
  • Perform other such duties as may be assigned
Educational Background: 
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Valid Food Handler Permit
  • Prior institutional cooking experience (preferred)
  • Experience in human services or health care field (preferred)
  • TB Test, CPR certification, and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire
  • Must have appropriate computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office to fulfill requirements of the position in an expedient manner
  • Must pass DSHS background Check (and FBI fingerprint check if a Washington resident for less than three (3) years
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or right to work

Inter-Relationships

  • The Kitchen Coordinator will interact with supervisors, coworkers, vendors, participants, and families/caregivers on a regular basis.  A professional demeanor and flexible approach are required, as is knowledge of who to refer to when faced with an unfamiliar issue.

Working Conditions

Duties will be performed in the program, the kitchen, and on the program grounds. Occasional travel to community businesses, offices and/or ESW adult day facilities may be necessary.

  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs. up to 20 times per day, using proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to frequently change position: stand, sit, kneel, bend, reach, stoop, twist and carry
  • Must be highly flexible and adaptable, able to respond quickly to the changing needs of participants, families and ESW
  • Work hours may vary to meet the needs of the program
