The Health Specialist serves as a resource to other TTA specialists on comprehensive health services including mental health, nutrition, dental, environmental health and safety and health promotion services/activities for children ages birth to 5 in accordance with the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards.
Serve as a liaison between regional and central OHS and the National Center on Health and Wellness and other agencies relevant to the work of the Regional Office. - Participate in case conference about individual grantees, at the request of the Regional Office - Participate in Project related meetings/conference calls on a regular and/or as needed basis - Serve as a resource to other TTA specialists on strategies for engaging families around issues on health - Identify, collect, organize, maintain, and disseminate resources, and training materials that are culturally appropriate to support health services for children, families, and staff. - Support and enhance the locally based technical assistant specialists providing a high level of expertise, analysis and individualization in the health area. - Aggregate and analyze state and regional health data from a variety of sources to identify emerging trends and patterns impacting Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Grantees. - Provide training on topics related to health to regional office staff, grantees and state partners, at the direction of the Regional Office - Target and disseminate health resources that assist grantees in developing more comprehensive interagency agreements with health care providers to meet unique Migrant and Seasonal Head Start issues. - Assist TTA Specialist in determine and analyzing root causes of grantees health deficiencies and successfully address them with the implementation of a Quality Improvement Plan. - Provide direct TTA to grantees, as directed by the Regional Office, and - Incorporate other tasks specific to health reflective of evolving national priorities as presented by the Office of Head Start, National Centers, Regional Office, and/or aggregate regional assessment data.
- With technical oversight, provide technical leadership in design, development, planning, implementation; and capacity building of specific technical components of programs.
- Participate in resource development activities.
- Responsible for accomplishing assigned job responsibilities, and following the standards and practices of the department and division.

- Strong knowledge and skills in specific technical area/function and general understanding of concepts and principles of related technical areas/functions.
- Solid knowledge of standards for the technical area/field, operational processes and procedures, work and task flow.
- Ability to manage own work to job and performance standards.
- Typically requires 5-8 years of relevant experience in Head Start
- Has ability to manage projects, set realistic priorities, and plan for the successful implementation of activities.
- Proficient writing and verbal communication skills.
- Relevant computer software skills (including, at a minimum, the standard applications in MS Office).
