Disability inclusion is a priority in Save the Children’s 2019-2021 strategy, and the Disability Inclusion Fellow will provide technical management of activities designed to increase the capacity of Save the Children’s international Programs staff, who support development and humanitarian programming in 120 countries.  The position is designed to be half-time for a period of 6 months, with a timeframe and level of effort to be negotiated with the preferred candidate.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Review available documents related to disability inclusion across Save the Children’s international programming – Global Disability Inclusion Working Group 2019-2021 strategy and workplan; disability inclusion in country strategic plans (10%);
  • Support the development of a Disability Inclusion resource library for the International Programs department (15%)
  • Work with the VP to organize and implement a professional development series for International Programs staff, envisioned as a speakers series covering disability inclusion in at least 4 thematic areas that Save the Children programs e.g., health, nutrition, education, child protection, etc. (35%)
  • Work with the AVP of Program Quality and Impact to design a two-day workshop on Disability Inclusion, in coordination with the Global Disability Inclusion Working Group. Identify and conduct outreach DC-based Disabled People’s Organizations whose staff can be drawn on for learning during the workshop. (40%)
Educational Background: 
Currently enrolled in Masters program or recent graduate
Skills/Experience: 
  • Candidates with Braille Literacy skills, experience using assistive technology for people with visual or hearing impairments and/or fluency in American Sign Language are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • To be classified as a fellow: an individual must be enrolled in a relevant graduate or post-graduate academic program and able to receive some form of credit from his/her college or institution. (Minimum requirement is a letter of support and documentation is required only after a fellowship is offered.)
