In the immediate aftermath of a disaster or conflict, and throughout the transition from emergency response to recovery and sustainable development, Save the Children’s presence in 120 countries facilitates the rapid delivery of evidence-based and innovative health and nutrition interventions that address the major causes of illness and death among the world’s most vulnerable populations. The Emergency Health and Nutrition (EHN) team at Save the Children US works closely with colleagues in the development sector of Health & Nutrition as well as with colleagues in Humanitarian Response, both within the US team and with other Members in multiple countries allowing the intern to gain exposure to many different facets of the organization. The intern will work under the supervision of the Program Coordinator with oversight from the Director and will primarily focus on knowledge management activities along with administrative, logistical and programmatic support as needed.
- Assist the Emergency Health and Nutrition (EHN) team with projects that come up, which could range for example from literature reviews for research, creating and editing e-learning modules for recently developed tools, supporting the preparation of international trainings, or developing advocacy documents.
- Work with the Program Coordinator to track the team’s evolving portfolio at the global, regional and country levels. This would include reviewing grant proposals and reports, leading follow-up communications with our field-based staff, performing desk reviews for potential fundraising opportunities, etc.
- Attend webinars and brown bags to learn more about Save the Children's ongoing emergency work and identify opportunities for linkages with EHN team projects.
- Improve knowledge management within the team and across the organization. This includes maintaining our technical toolkits, developing briefers and factsheets, and assisting with webinars and presentations to promote EHN work internally and externally.
- Assist the Program Coordinator with tracking the team’s travel and any other administrative tasks as needed.
- Demonstrated interest in Public Health and Humanitarian Assistance
- Strong written and oral communication skills, solid interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, ability to work within a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel
- Experience with basic data analysis and Google sites is desirable
- To be classified as an intern: an individual must be enrolled in a relevant undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate academic program and able to receive credit from his/her college or institution (Minimum requirement is a letter of support and documentation is required only after an internship is offered.)
- An individual who is not enrolled as a student may apply for an internship, but will be classified as a skilled volunteer, not as an intern
