The Founders Affiliate of the American Heart Association has a newly created opportunity for a Development Director - CycleNation . The selected candidate will have fundraising responsibilities for CycleNation by bringing together corporate partners, medical leaders, community leaders, and volunteers of the community to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke, the number #1 and #5 killers in America. The net fundraising goal for CycleNation is $150K for the first year. This will be accomplished through corporate sponsorship and participant income within the Metro Boston territory.
- The CycleNation movement empowers a nation to use road bikes and stationary bikes through a series of events to help Americans get heart and brain healthy. The funds raised continue vital community programs that will forever and finally change the course of heart disease and stroke.
- CycleNation consists of three integrated national pillars, including an Indoor Series, Outdoor Rides and a Pro-Am. These pillars are inclusive of both avid and novice cyclists.

- CycleNation is uniquely mission aligned as cycling can prevent heart disease and aid in faster recovery for stroke patients.
The Development Director is responsible for:
Revenue
- Achieve fundraising goal of $150K by June 30, 2019 through developing and maintaining relationships with AHA corporate and community partners in the Metro Boston community
- Sell corporate sponsorships and generate participant income for the CycleNation event
- Develop new company and volunteer recruitment plans as well as drive income goals including peer-to-peer fundraising
- Drive new business development through sponsorship sales
- Accountable for recruiting and stewarding c-suite volunteer leaders, team captains and riders based on nationally established best practices
- Monitor participant fundraising trends and implementing proven strategies to maximize income
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 20 Cycle Nation sponsored bikes
- Monitor participant fundraising trends and implementing proven strategies to maximize income; conduct a minimum of 10 face to face meetings per week.
Volunteer Management
- Maintain consistent communication with all levels of volunteers to drive fundraising efforts
- Responsible for recognition and cultivation of volunteers throughout the year
- Identify creative ways to motivate and interact with Cycle Nation teams to ensure retention year over year
Event Planning
- Planning and implementation of the Metro Boston’s Cycle Nation including all logistics
- In this role, you will report to the VP, Development for Boston and will be based in our Waltham office.

- 2 plus years of experience in fundraising or corporate sales
- Demonstrated success in achieving assigned sales or fundraising revenue goals;
- Ability to build powerful partnerships with corporate leaders and senior level volunteers
- Ability to accomplish results through strong volunteer recruitment and management
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability to successfully identify, cultivate, recruit, and maintain relationships with top level volunteers/customers
- Great organizational, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to understand and navigate corporate cultures to achieve goals
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout the market, the affiliate and to the national center in Dallas, TX as needed
- Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed around event schedules
- Basic knowledge and skill with the suite of Microsoft products
