As an AmeriCorps VISTA, you have the power to make a big impact in the lives of others in our local community.
VISTA will build the capacity and expand programming in the Financial Stability Impact area. All programs strive to increase economic opportunity for low-income residents.
United Way of Indian River County’s employee culture is one of service, kindness, and resourcefulness. This is a great opportunity for someone to join a small collaborative, supportive team, working intelligently, individually, and diligently. A successful VISTA candidate is flexible, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and emotionally intelligent.
As a result of VISTA’s efforts, United Way of Indian River County will better understand what combination of income services are currently available to the target community, where service gaps are, what best practices can be adopted to enhance program impact, and how to leverage local resources to better achieve our goals.
Together with your help, we will transform the lives of the most vulnerable children and families in Indian River County.
In coordination with the Chief Operating Officer and the Community Impact Coordinator, and in collaboration with other United Way staff, specific VISTA responsibilities include:
- Program Assessment: evaluating the effectiveness of the individual programs as well as the collective portfolio of programs.
- Service Mapping: identifying geographical service gaps.
- Research: identify best practices and make recommendations for improved program effectiveness.
- Volunteer Recruitment: ensure programs have access to volunteers to expand and sustain programming. Help to train volunteers on proposed initiatives.
- Outreach: help, plan, execute and support volunteer recruitment for two episodic volunteer events that create a greater awareness in the community about the struggles of people living in poverty.
Ongoing technical training and support will be provided in-house, mainly by the Chief Operating Officer, Director of Community Impact, and the Community Impact Coordinator. The VISTA will also be directed and encouraged to seek out additional opportunities for skill and professional development to enhance their role including in-person capacity-building trainings offered for example, by Florida Prosperity Partnership, and those offered via webinars for example through CFED, the Heartland Alliance and the National Alliance to End Homelessness.
