The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Science & Medicine Advisor (Temporary) in our National Center office located in Dallas, Texas (Remote/Home Based is acceptable) .

This is a Part Time position and we are looking for someone to work approx. 20 hrs. a week depending on workload.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing expert review of cardiovascular and stroke content to AHA's science and medicine team.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide consultation, guidance and approval on science aspects to internal AHA staff who develop and maintain public and professional programs, patient and lay publications, AHA web sites, press releases, corporate relations and marketing materials with health and science implications and other public facing activities.
  • Work with teams to help review content for AHA professional websites and products.
  • Synthesize, analyze and explain, as needed, (verbally and in written communication) to lay, professionals and to internal AHA staff the current states of the science and medicine in their portfolios and the implications these have for AHA.
  • Maintains current CVD and stroke knowledge on the state of the science and practice in these fields to assure that the content reviewed is current and accurate.
Educational Background: 
Clinical and educational experience in the cardiovascular, neuroscience or related fields
Skills/Experience: 
  • Adult education expertise
  • Superior writing & communication skills
  • Superior collaboration and group management skills
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple long and short-term projects at one time.
  • Ability to understand, integrate and summarize scientific literature.
  • Your ability to provide an independent review without any self- or organizational bias
  • A good understanding of information on AHA website (heart.org, Professional Heart Daily, AHA journals, Guidelines and Statements), and other AHA patient-facing websites as related to content being reviewed.

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

  • Editorial or curriculum development experience is a plus
