The Marketing Manager is responsible for supporting the Marketing Director in developing and implementing expert strategies and communications that result in the increased awareness and growing the positive impact of United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona (UWTSA). A key role of this is to design and execute effective promotional materials, advertising and collateral. In addition, the Marketing Manager will assist in implementing and tracking marketing and advertising strategies, work with staff to develop effective communications and promotional materials, execute digital and social marketing initiatives, support the Community Engagement Manager with successful and intentional events that enhance the local brand and to assist in the creation of effective campaign communications that raise funds and awareness within the Resource Development department. This is a full time, exempt position that reports to and works directly with the Senior Director of Marketing.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Marketing Materials and Strategies

  • Create promotional materials and support the Marketing Department and organization with graphic design needs.
  • Work with the Marketing Team to strategize and develop marketing plans and materials for upcoming events and campaigns.
  • Assist in managing the use of the United Way logo and brand identification and other trademarked/copyrighted materials, ensuring consistent, appropriate usage throughout the organization on all materials.
  • Assist in managing quality control of all marketing and collateral materials, such as video production, annual report, pledge cards, brochures, etc.
  • Copy writing and editing as needed.

Donor/Targeted Audience Relations

  • Work with Marketing Team and Resource Development to develop marketing solutions and materials that drive fundraising and increase resources under management.
  • Work with Marketing Team and Resource Development to create direct mail, email strategies and campaigns.
  • Cultivate targeted communications to donors and donor segments.
  • Assist in generating year-round, substantive publicity and media attention to support marketing strategies throughout the year.

Advertising

  • Assist Marketing Director in cultivating relationships with volunteers, vendors and advertising firms to leverage advertising budget to extend United Way’s reach to targeted audiences.
  • Design strategic materials and/or communicate clear direction to hired vendors.
  • Manage and grow social media accounts with intentional and effective messaging. 
  • Assist Marketing Director in managing digital advertising and online organic visibility.

Media Relations

  • Assist Marketing Director in distributing news, press releases and article pitches to all media.
  • Continuously cultivate new media relationships and grow UWTSA’s network.
  • Maintain and update media list that allows access to various audiences to be reached.
  • Assist in scheduling appearances with appropriate venues to promote United Way’s mission.  Likewise, work with print media to achieve the same.
  • Assist in managing public responses and reputation.

Events

  • Work with Community Engagement Manager on coordinating with volunteers, staff, and vendors in planning and executing events within budget.
  • Work with Marketing Team in creating event signage and materials, working with all departments, especially Resource Development.
  • Assist in fulfilling sponsorship benefits.
  • Event set up and breakdown as needed.

Administrative Functions

  • Perform duties in accordance with United Way policies and procedures such as attending staff meetings and conferences, completing accurate and timely timesheets and expense reports.
  • Ability to manage horizontal priorities in a fast-paced environment, lead project planning, organization, monitoring and implementation, and motivate departmental teams toward project objectives.
  • Submit budgets as appropriate.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communication, public relations, journalism or related field and one year of experience or the equivalent combination of education/experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Proficient in current programs beneficial to marketing including Adobe Creative Cloud – Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.
  • Demonstrated excellent written/verbal communication skills, including clear, concise, and accurate written documents, grammar, spelling, and election/organization of appropriate presentation method/vehicle.
  • Experience developing and managing various social media outlets and ability to stay current in this area.
  • Ability to self-manage and motivate.
  • Enjoys creative thinking and brainstorming.
  • Ability to update and learn Website CMS platform NationBuilder.
  • Demonstrated customer service, problem solving, time management, research, information management, and higher level organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated skills using Windows-based software, including Internet browsers, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and graphics software, to generate meaningful and comprehensive documents, materials and presentations.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule and adjust it as required by changing activities.  Ability to travel to work in a variety of locations throughout the metropolitan Tucson area.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, daily access to reliable vehicle and able to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
Compensation/Benefits: 

SALARY RANGE:  $38,000 TO $43,000 DOE
