Basic Responsibilities:

  • Serve as service coordinator for assigned children in the classroom throughout the child’s enrollment in the program. Support primary care-giving staff in meeting the personal care of children. 
  • Plan, implement, evaluate and supervisor a developmentally appropriate and inclusive educational curriculum for young children, in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, policies and procedures and Easterseals Southern California standards of conduct.
  • Ensure that classroom therapy and individual child goals are implemented.  Maintain weekly lesson plans, progress and anecdotal notes, and current paperwork.
  • Coordinate and supervise bi-monthly classroom team meetings.  Provide input to evaluate teaching assistants, volunteers and college interns. Read, implement and provide training to designated staff regarding applicable service areas. 
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, parent meetings, in service training, program meetings and team meetings.  Participate in planning associates and parent training activities, parent meetings and workshops.

Qualifications:

  • Associate of Arts degree or higher in early childhood development, child development or special education preferred. Possession of Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or 24 units of ECE/CD including core courses (child growth and development, child/family/community, infant/toddler and programs/curriculum). Must meet ongoing educational requirements to qualify for child development permit/CDA requirements.
  • Experience teaching in a preschool and infant/toddler classroom setting, which includes 175 days of 3+ hours per day within a four year period.
  • Training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable and supportive relationships with very young children; must develop knowledge of infant and toddler development, safety issues in infant and toddler child care settings (i.e., reducing the risk of SIDS).
  • Possession of pediatric (infant/toddler) CPR and first aid certificate.
  • Ability to properly interpret and implement regulations, policies and procedures of the California Department of Education, Funding Terms and Conditions (Title 5), Child Development Division, the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing program regulations (Title 22), Easterseals Southern California and Early Head Start/Head Start Performance Standards (Title 5, 17 and 22).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, through oral and written skills, and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups. Must relate well to children and their families and maintain positive affect.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, plan, establish and meet timelines. Coordinate and implement school site programs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift 40 lbs. continuously. Ability to reach, bend, stoop and squat. Also possess fine manual dexterity, can push, pull, talk/hear, with near and far visual activity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.
  • Ability to pass post-offer medical examination and test for tuberculosis.
  • Ability to obtain fingerprint clearance per Easterseals Southern California and/or program requirements.
