The Senior Manager, Grant Development and Management, drives a cross-departmental strategy to resource and support the mission and community impact initiatives for United Way Suncoast. Responsible for the development and project management of the strategic funding plan, and creating an organizational strategy for grant development. Additionally, the position will be accountable for writing compelling grant applications and ensuring alignment with financial and operational processes.
- Establishes and leads a cross functional team of staff responsible for developing a long-term strategic funding plan for resourcing our impact products (includes grants, major gifts, etc.). Develops a timeline and accountability measures for the team and ensures that the plan is acted upon.
- Identifies team and organizational needs required to execute the strategic funding plan and creates processes and solutions to meet those needs.
- Serves as the liaison to the Finance and Operations departments regarding the progress of strategic funding plan and grant development. Provides frequent progress reports to Finance and Operations staff.
- Develops a robust working relationship with the Resource Development department. Meets frequently with the Chief Development Officer. Attends Resource Development team meetings as appropriate. Works closely with major gifts staff to pursue goals and to develop proposals for prospects.
- Partnering with the Grant Accountant, leads the creation of the organizational grants management policy, procedures and processes that satisfy the needs of all departments and ensures that all necessary parties are involved.
- Establishes and maintains ongoing and current knowledge of United Way impact areas, goals, strategies and measures. Understands our holistic impact strategies and the integration of our work with funded partners.
- Works with Vice President, Information Technology, to identify opportunities for automation and integration with the CRM system.
- Works in partnership with the Senior Manager, Data and Outcomes to communicate progress of funded programs, to develop evaluation component of applications and a timeline for reporting progress.
- Creates an annual plan for grant development and management that includes timelines and responsibilities.
- Researches and identifies new government and private funding prospects. Cultivates prospects and establishes relationships with existing funders. Develops relationships in the community and pursues opportunities for joint resource development.
- Generates proposals and supporting documents in response to solicitations. Generates revenues for United Way Suncoast’s internal programs, services and impact areas through timely submission of well-researched, well-written and well-documented proposals.
- Develops and maintains a database of foundations and grant makers for United Way Suncoast’s initiatives. Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the database, including creating new records and accurate and timely entry of all grants, grant reporting requirements, proposals and donor information. Coordinates regular data clean up and merging of records with the Department.
- In partnership with impact staff and the Senior Manager, Data and Outcomes, writes reports to government, foundations and other funders to meet compliance requirements of grants secured. Manages and monitors multiple grant applications, follow-up and reports.
- Assists with annual organizational audits and routine grant-related correspondence, maintains grant and sub-grant files, keeps accurate and timely records in Andar and CRM, and undertakes other administrative duties as assigned.
Experience:
A strategic thinker with project management experience is desired. Candidate must be able to work collaboratively across departments with diverse staff. Knowledge of grant application process and writing of applications required. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills; great attention to detail, capable of working independently, as well as having excellent communication skills and the ability to work in team situations.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, interpret and report information in clear, concise, and useful formats. Ability to write clear, structured, organized proposals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
Mathematical Skills:
Requires intermediate mathematical skills and abilities. Ability to compile, analyze and interpret statistical information.
Reasoning Skills:
Proactive problem solving and analytical ability. Identify source of existing problems and resolve within context of organizational policies and procedures.
Computer Skills:
Intermediate knowledge and proven adaptability to changing computer technology and software programs. Advanced knowledge of MS Office software applications. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Licenses: Valid Florida Driver’s License

Ability to adapt and work in a rapidly changing organizational environment. Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills required. Ability to coordinate multiple participants and monitor individual and group progress against goals. Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
