AmeriCorps Program Manager

This position will provide county-wide AmeriCorps program monitoring, coordinate recruitment and training services, and assist with the technical aspects, evaluation and program development for United Way of St. Joseph County’s AmeriCorps program.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Non-profit organizations and their leadership; volunteers; public; media; other AmeriCorps programs and Serve Indiana.
  • Reports to the Director of Grants & Special Projects; works closely with Vice President of Finance and Administration regarding AmeriCorps financial requirements; works with Vice President of Community Impact to support agency needs through member placement.

Public Relations

  • Assist with conducting initial PR to introduce AmeriCorps program to community.
  • Become the face of the program in the community.
  • Assist with publicizing the program in the community on an ongoing basis.
  • Develop and expand partnerships with community organizations, schools, government agencies, businesses, and community members.

Policies and Procedures

  • Assist with developing written policies and procedures for program operations.

Trainings

  • Commit to completing extensive training online and in person as required by Serve Indiana.

Service Sites

  • Manage service sites and service site supervisors on an ongoing basis.
    • Recruit service sites and site supervisors.
    • Oversee service site orientations and on-going training.
    • Monitor the implementation of all service projects and reviews service site activities and supervisor reports on an ongoing basis.

AmeriCorps Member Recruitment, Selection, Placement and Development

  • Manage members
    • Assist with developing AmeriCorps member recruitment materials, including AmeriCorps webpage and pages in e-Grants.
    • Lead recruitment and application process.
    • Interview all applicants.
    • Approve all background checks.
    • Oversee the development of annual member training curriculum.
      • Facilitate member pre-service orientation and weekly team meetings.
      • Promote member retention and develops a sense of teamwork among AmeriCorps service site staff and members through frequent communication.
      • Provide supervision to service site staff and members and ensures that members are getting quality supervision.
      • Maintain all member files.
      • Monitor member reporting in OnCorps on an ongoing basis.
      • Assist with mediating member disputes/problems.

Program Evaluation

  • Assist with developing annual evaluation plan congruent with the objectives outlined in the grant requirements.
  • Assist with developing and monitoring systems for tracking outcomes and impacts of program activities.
  • Monitor program activities, ensuring contract compliance.
  • Coordinate the annual satisfactory and feedback survey process

Budget Management

  • Track service site match requirements.
  • Submit expenditure requests, reimburse mileage, etc. to support program goals to the finance department.
  • Monitor the budget monthly and suggests budget modifications if necessary.

Reporting

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly and bi-annual reporting.
  • Monitor service site reporting.

Other duties as assigned.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in related field, i.e. social work, public administration, health, non-profit management; or a High School Equivalent with 5 years’ experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Knowledgeable about the AmeriCorps program, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable about St. Joseph County human services community and demonstrates evidence of ability to effectively navigate and access key relationships within that community.
  • Proficiency in business computer software and systems, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills, leadership skills, interpersonal skills, collaborative problem solving skills and the ability to motivate AmeriCorps members and service site staff.
  • Ability to work with volunteers, staff, partners and community at-large providing leadership, direction, and resource information, as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Multi-functional, fast-paced, office setting and field work with AmeriCorps service sites.
  • Strong team-work with collegial staff and relationships with AmeriCorps service sites, AmeriCorps members and other community partners.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:         

  • Valid driver’s license, automobile/vehicle, vehicle insurance.
  • Participate in professional growth opportunities, as indicated and available.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $31,000 to $40,000 per year
