CPWR—The Center for Construction Research and Training (www.cpwr.com) is seeking a full time deputy director to work in our Silver Spring, Maryland headquarters. The position is part of CPWR’s leadership team and has two main responsibilities: to function as the lead scientist for the NIOSH-funded National Construction Research Center; and to provide leadership support to the executive director on all other CPWR projects. CPWR is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation.
Since its inception in 1990, CPWR has emerged as a national leader with an exclusive focus on construction worker safety and health in the U.S., and it is also recognized internationally for its excellence. CPWR serves as the research and training arm of the North America’s Building Trades Unions with three main arms serving construction workers: NIOSH-funded safety and health research; NIEHS-funded worker training programs addressing safety and health; and DOE-funded medical surveillance for construction workers formerly employed in the Nation’s legacy DOE nuclear sites.
The deputy director is responsible for the day-to-day management of assigned research, training, and service programs, reporting directly to CPWR’s executive director. The position is responsible for developing synergies between training, research, and service in order to capitalize on programs funded by different federal grants and contracts.
The deputy director will initiate and direct construction safety and health research projects, supervise the organization’s intramural research portfolio and facilitate the work of extramural research consortium partners. The applicant will be expected to author peer-reviewed journal articles, lay audience publications, research proposals, and represent the organization to labor, academic, governmental, and industry stakeholders.
