Our Global Health Program (GHP) harnesses advances in science and technology to save lives in poor countries. We focus on the health problems that have a major impact in developing countries but get too little attention and funding. Where tools exist, we support sustainable ways to improve their delivery. Where they don’t, we invest in research and development of new interventions, such as vaccines, drugs, and diagnostics. Our work in infectious diseases focuses on strategies to fight and prevent HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, neglected tropical diseases, enteric and diarrheal diseases, pneumonia, and maternal, newborn and child health – Discovery and Tools. These strategies are supported by functional teams that focus on Discovery and Translational Sciences, Innovative Technology Solutions, Vaccine Development, Integrated Development and Innovation Introduction.
We seek a senior leader with a minimum of 12+ years’ experience in commercial product launches, specifically in global pharmaceutical products (preferably in Low & Middle Income Country markets). Familiarity with all core launch activities (e.g., market access, medical affairs) as well as the ability to make resourcing decisions and evaluate trade-offs will be crucial. The desired candidate will also have demonstrated ability to build and leverage cross-functional relationships and lead through influence. You will also have a strong track record of defining (market assessment and sizing) and meeting commercial targets to meet impact goals.
The Deputy Director, Product Introduction will provide overall cross-functional leadership to drive the product strategy. You will act as the accountable lead for product launches focused initially on one or more of our portfolios, including:
- Infectious Diseases (e.g. HIV, TB, Malaria)
- Devices and Diagnostics
- Maternal, Newborn and Child Health
You will be responsible for coordination between the launch team, product strategy teams and other relevant internal and external stakeholders.
The Deputy Director, Product Introduction will lead the Introduction team and be responsible for:
- Overseeing the end-to-end launch process and serving as the accountable lead for successful launch, introduction and scale-up.
- Developing ambition for products and the development of sound business cases and Target Product Profiles.
- Tracking status and completion of key launch activities from pre-clinical through scale-up.
- Setting ambition for the product: share of population reached, timelines in which this happens, timelines of program completion, regulatory procedures, access and launches.
- Analyzing environments in order to have full insight and understanding of the market place; boiling down key issues and opportunities.
- Building solid strategic roadmaps to achieve goals based on thorough analysis.
- Ensuring all aspects of fully integrated product launch and leads accordingly. Aspects include: Development, Access, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs strategies and tactics, Public Affairs and Relations, Stakeholder engagement including governments, NGO’s etc
- Leading implementation and actions to execute integrated plans in flawless coordination.

- Managing necessary processes including strict financial management and oversight.
- Developing necessary supply and manufacturing strategies and partnerships.

- Internal processes: Strong experience in working effectively with senior decision makers as it pertains to strategy development and execution
- Experience developing and handling strong partnerships and relationships both inside and outside the organization, handling conflicts, and building consensus.
- Ability to lead strategy planning and implementation.
- Shown strength in structured problem solving and strategic business planning, with the ability to easily identify and communicate frameworks to analyze issues and synthesize disparate information.
- Adept at project management; including critical path thinking, detail orientation, setting priorities, and planning.
- Broad knowledge of global health issues, product development processes and regulatory requirements and procedures; at both global and national levels is helpful.
- Intellectual quickness, curiosity, discipline, resourcefulness, Innovation and creativity
- High level of cultural competence
- MBA and/or other advanced degree in Business, Life Sciences or equivalent
- Ability to travel up to 50% domestically and internationally to target markets.
