The Deputy Director (DD), Health Funds and Partnerships (HFP), will provide management and strategic direction for the Funds and Partnerships sub-team. The DD will lead all relationships and partnerships with other global health institutions within the scope of the GDP, except for the Global Financing Facility (GFF) and the World Bank (handled by the HF&P Senior Advisor) and support the GFF and the World Bank engagement. The DD will shape the team’s priorities, communicate a clear rationale for choices of the team and provide recommendations to the Director for changes in emphasis or direction. The individual will be a member of the GDP management team and relied upon for ensuring overall team effectiveness. The DD will be expected to recruit and retain great team members, create a culture of inclusivity and set high expectations for results. S/he will be responsible for excellent team relations across the foundation especially with the teams GDP supports and partners with. The DD will provide project briefings and updates to foundation leadership and represent the foundation in meetings with external partners as well as at global and regional conferences and convenings.
Working across GDP and engaging closely with colleagues in Program and Advocacy and Communications (PAC) and Government and Donor Relations (GDR) teams, program strategy teams (PSTs), and Development Policy and Finance (DPAF) team, the DD will have primary accountability for ensuring that overall GDP engagement in global and regional financing instruments and partnerships is intentional, collaborative, evidence-based, and influences for impact. The DD will also oversee the team’s collaboration with key multilaterals and bilaterals where Bill and Melinda Gates foundation (BMGF) has standing memoranda of understanding around partnership collaboration. An additional key focus and area of responsibility of the DD, and working closely with the HF&P Senior Advisor on GFF and The World Bank, will be ensuring that the health systems financing and support through global and regional levers is coherent, leveraged and outcome oriented at global and country levels.
- Leads a team that works across GDP, PAC, DPAF, and foundation PSTs to ensure that GDP engagement in global and regional investments in global and regional financing mechanisms (including but not limited to Gavi, Global Financing Facility, Global Fund, GPEI, and Lives and Livelihoods Fund) is intentional, collaborative, and influences for impact.
- Working across GDP and with broader foundation colleagues in DPAF, PAC, maintains a particular focus to ensure that investments in health systems across global and regional levers are focused, leveraged and impact oriented with collaboration of the global financing levers at the country level defined and inspired by country priorities and impact.
- Oversees collaborative GDP partnerships with multilaterals (e.g. WHO) and bilateral partners (e.g. USAID) and where GDP has memoranda of understanding for programmatic collaboration and cultivate further impactful partnerships.
- Support the Senior Advisor, Health Funds and Partnerships, who is responsible for GDP/BMGF engagement in the Global Financing Facility and the World Bank to assure GFF success.
- In collaboration with the HF&P leadership team, shapes a strategy for our engagement with health funds and partnerships with robust theories of change and action.
- Working closely with GDP and BMGF leadership, consider progress towards a coherent and aligned global health architecture post 2025.

- Provides strategic guidance in crafting grants and contracts that require complex research or analytics.
- Accountable for the identification and assessment of key portfolio risks, and the development and management of mitigation/contingency plans at the portfolio level.
- Advises, mentors, and supports colleagues within the foundation and their grantees in the design, enhancement, and execution of project, initiatives and engagements. Leads partnerships and grantee relationships to achieve impact, for example, by conducting site visits, convening meetings of key stakeholders, monitoring and evaluating components of grants.
